Sorry James but confidence doesnt eradicate quality and Owen had 2 chances tonight that lets face it, should have been goals. Also in terms of scoring goals, im not taking Owen's confidence as an excuse for him missing chances tonight on the back of him scoring at the weekend.

Then why do the likes of KK, Capello, Wenger and Ferguson always bleat on about confidence?

Aye, Owen scored at the weekend. What happenned? we f***ed it up. Not going to do his confidence good one iota. And its not just about confidence in ones own ability, it is about confidence in the team, and if Owen doesn't have confidence in his team mates, he is not going to have the full mentality to consistently put the ball in the back of the net.

He was 1 on 1 with the keeper at one point, how does he not score given the quality he possesses? A ball is sailing to him, falling to his head perfectly, all he has to do is get it on target, again given his quality how does he not score? It has nothing to do with his confidence in his team mates. Like I already said, those were easy chances and confidence doesnt eradicate quality, he should have scored tonight, he had 2 good chances to do it and took neither.

The team f***ing up at the weekend is irrelevant to Owen's confidence as a goal scorer, he scored and that does well for his confidence in terms of scoring goals if anything.

i've seen better forwrads than owen have games where they've missed a few sitters, but his goals record speaks for itself...if he normally misses that many he must be the best in the world at getting into the positions to get sitters in the first place.

Aye, Owen scored at the weekend. What happenned? we fucked it up. Not going to do his confidence good one iota. And its not just about confidence in ones own ability, it is about confidence in the team, and if Owen doesn't have confidence in his team mates, he is not going to have the full mentality to consistently put the ball in the back of the net.

confidence doesnt eradicate quality

a lack of confidence diminishes a players quality, i cant see how there can even be any argument against that.

Might diminish it, but it doesnt eradicate it, the chances tonight were simple, put on a plate for him.

Pretty much any player of any quality can have a crisis in confidence and suffer a loss in form, and everywhere I look, on the pitch and off the pitch I see lack of confidence. Contrast that to a year ago when there was happiness, cameraderie, swagger and results. Same players less confidence. To deny that every player in the side is being afflicted by the lowest ebb of confidence I have seen at this football club is to deny that the sky is blue.

exactly, he is physically able to do it and do it often, so why did he miss them tonight? and perhaps even more tellingly why did xisco miss a sitter too?

absolutely, but that isnt justification for dismissing a lack of confidence as a reason

The worst thing is the press always say owen is why we are winning, or he is leaving because we arent getting anywhere. Well maybe if he was half f***ing decent we would have been in the draw 10 days ago and we would have a lot more fricking points. the fact is that he is s****. cant wait for him to leave.

2 f***ing 1 on 1's he's missed in the ties. WORLD CLASS,    CCCCCCCCLLLLLLLLLEEEEEAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRLLLLLLLLLLLLLYYYYY        NOT

In that case, let him go to Man C or wherever, and affirm our RRRRRRRREEEEELLLLLEEEEGGGGAAATTTTIIIOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!

Hope he goes so you can get some more practice with your Caps lock....

Owen will be more concerned that of the three chances he had, he only got one on target. The likelihood is, if he gets three similar chances on Saturday, he'll score a hat-trick.

He better because as the last thing I want to see is a gloating Allardyce on Saturday night.

Some people are reading far too much into this by the way.

A team with something like 11 or 12 players missing gets beaten in the cup by another teams reserve players.

That automatically means we are going down, does it? f*** off. If you think that's the case, try the RELEGATIONLOADOFSHITEOMETER and post in there with the rest of the doom mongers.

Honestly, some of the people on these boards are f***ing brain deads.

The Chinese have a saying ; 'It is better to keep one's mouth closed and be thought a fool, than to open it and prove the point beyond all doubt'.....

I reckon you have just verified the truth of their saying......

Just back in from the game. Worst Newcastle team I've seen in nearly 20 years. Something is very seriously wrong at the club and it's there for all to see, in the body language and demeanor of the players on the park. Just no will to win the game tonight, against what was more-a-less Hull reserves. If the players and management aren't arsed about the FA Cup, then fine - but it's a slap in the face for the 30000 that went tonight.

If tonight is to become regular fare - then we are knackered. Questions need to be asked of Ashley and Wise and they may well be. There will be no response however. The club is being ran/wound down.

AT LAST - the voice of reason...well done, BG, you are obviously a fan of many years who KNOWS what a bad team looks like.

It was, but you have to figure the Chinese have said it once or twice since then.

So Newcastle continue to carry on the Jackal and Hyde act. Why is it a team can comfortably beat sides above them but struggle against the side around and below them? I for one didn't think I'd be too fussed about being knocked out of the cup but after seeing the team sheets it's somewhat of a concern.

I know we were OK in spells and created chances but at the end of the day we were still rolled over. Come the end of the season too many hard luck stories is going to result in Championship football.

We've been hit by an injury crisis at the worst possible time, leaving the squad so thin has really come back to bite us in the arse, but we still have enough quality to be rolling over the Hull B team for f***s sake. I feel for the likes of Xisco, Edgar and Co I really do, what has that lad got to do to get a game? Well for one he could take a leaf out of Bassong's book, role up his sleeves, stop feeling sorry for himself and put in a performance. We don't need passengers right now and that's exactly what the man is behaving as, he's a paid professional for crying out loud.

The problem is these "I'd prefer to feel sorry for myself than play football" performances are becoming more frequent. I thought the more Kinnear's cheeks started to warm the hot seat  the more often we'd see decent results would come but it would appear the opposite is  happening. I just hope another one of those positive displays is around the corner because I feel I, like other fans, am beginning to lose faith in his ability to keep us in the Premier League.

Dr Jekyll?? Sorry, but I think Mr Hyde has got the upper hand - maybe Dr J has taken too much of the 'potion'....!!

The weird thing with Owen is though his finishing is very erratic (scores some that are much more difficult than some he misses), he still manages a very good goals/games ratio because his movement is still so good. He continues to get those chances despite a woeful supply-line.

He often winds me up due to his lack of effort, tendency to disappear in games and of course the chances that go begging, but the simple fact is that we STILL need his goals to keep us afloat.

I don't even know this club anymore.

Totally agree. It is the worst I have known and I go way back to the second division days. It's like the clubs been hijacked by a bunch of people who do not give a f*ck about the club or fans. They have no understanding of the this club, it's history and it's fans. Why would they? A fat cockney t*at who could not give a s*** about the club. The guy is clueless. As soon as I saw him posing as a fan with his top on i just thought this fat tw*t is going to be trouble. Shepherd made mistakes but I think he cared about the club and at least had a plan. He communicated with the fans. This bloke and his cronies never speak, never say what the vision is for the club. Why should a player like Shay Given stay at this club in it's present state. He owes us nothing. He should get him self to decent club where he might win something. We are a massive club with great fans being run by a bunch of cockneys who do not give a f*ck about the club. It is the complete ineptitude and ignorance of the fat b**tard running this club that scares me. Trust us to get the clown taking us over.

Thanks for your view, but I disagree with pretty much everything you just typed. Thats just my view!

he's made the best post in the last few hours by a country mile.

It must be pretty difficult for people like you trying to understand why we aren't in our rightful place chasing european qualification as a minimum, but if you can work it out I'd be interested in your comments.
