Realistically I'd hope we line up as.

                              Harper

S.Taylor        Colo          Bassong      Enrique

R.Taylor        Butt          Nolan          Duff

                    Carroll        Lovenkrands

Subs; Krul, Edgar, Geremi, Ameobi, Martins, Lua Lua.

Just to mix it up, we tried the two big guys against Sunderland and it didn't really work.

I'd go for something like this, roll the dice and see what happens:

Harper

R. Taylor - S. Taylor - Bassong - Enrique

Lovenkrands - Nolan - Geremi - Duff

Xisco - Martins

Which is what makes these threads so frustrating and pointless because we all know Butt and Ameobi will be playing no matter what.

Carroll is injured.  Take him out and put in Martins.

posted that on the Martins thread earlier. Like how they`ve decided to put this news up today, perhaps to divert attention from the shambles that was yesterday

It's going to be quite difficult to pick up victories away from home with the lack of pace in our team. I doubt Oba will start, maybe Lovenkrands might provide something on the break. Our best bet will probably be to try and keep a clean sheet, win a few free kicks and hope Ryan Taylor sticks one of them in the net.

If Carroll and Colo out, then I guess the starting line-up will be:

                    Harper

R. Taylor  S. Taylor  Bassong  Enrique

Geremi      Butt      Nolan        Duff

          Lovenkrands  Ameobi

Martins will be back. Lovelyhands will play in midfield imo.

I know I have said the opposite in the past but I would be very tempted to give Kazenga a chance in this game instead of Geremi. I haven't seen much of him so he could not be ready but he seems to have pace and is capable of scoring a cracker every now and then (although thats based on youth/reserve games). I am just scared of the lack of pace and movement in a midfield comprising of Geremi, Butt, Nolan and Duff  :kasper:

Or this, ignore my post Lua Lua is probably injured anyway!

Will be interesting to see Lovenkrands playing in midfield as there seems to be a consensus of opinion that he wasn't too good out wide for Rangers, and was better employed as a forward. It might work as I see us playing more direct football in any case for the rest of this season.

No Colo :( means Tyalor back to CB, and he has been okay at RB.

In case anyone missed this from the Smith thread:

Smudger Targets Baggies Return

By Craig Hope

ALAN Smith is hoping to celebrate the end of six months of painstaking rehabilitation by returning to the Newcastle United squad for this weekend's trip to West Brom.

The 28-year-old fractured his ankle during pre-season and has yet to figure for the Magpies this term.

But, after making a competitive comeback for United's Reserves last week, Smith says that Saturday's clash against the West Midlands basement boys is now firmly within his sights.

"My aim was to get through 60 minutes for the Reserves so I was delighted to do so and at the end of it I didn't want to come off,"

"West Brom is now the target for me.

"I felt great in my comeback match and there were no muscle strains or anything which sometimes happens when you've been out for a while.

"I've worked hard during the past six months or so and my thanks go the physios for their help in getting me where I am today.

"I feel good now but obviously it was a big setback for me because I'd played most of pre-season before I fractured my ankle.

"I had a fracture which, in layman's terms, is a broken ankle. There was also a ligament reattachment on the outside so it was a very serious injury.

"Six months was the schedule but during then there was a bit of confusion and it was reported that I had an Achilles problem but that was never the case."

I'm fully expecting him to start alongside Shola with Martins on the bench.
