Tonight's attendance for #NUFC U18s (11,664) would have been the 2nd highest in League One at the weekend behind only Bristol City (11,767).

Just over 4000 less than what we got against Plymouth in the actual FA Cup a few years back.

Free though wasn't it?

That was cold. Quality turnout, club clearly didn't expect that many as it was a mess getting everyone seated.

3-0 flattered them but they clearly had a more quality. Probably have spent about £20m on their team. Their  number 11 particularly good. Our lads knocked it about alright in spells tbf.

Bit strong like. They were overpowered too often and struggled to keep the ball for periods of the game but had a couple of chances to win the game. Couple of the Chelsea lads were just a cut above.

Went along to the u21s tonight. Don't like to knock the bairns but that Kemen looked fairly gash. Armstrong very lively, just lacked the finish. Boro had a couple of talented lads, quite embarrassing how their youth setup continues to be far superior than ours.

We are at least consistent at being bad.

Another good piece from http://www.nufc.com/

Loan move curtailed:

Armstrong misses out

on Trees/Trotters move

Latest quotes from John Carver:

"It’s very difficult, people want Adam Armstrong to play and it’s a difficult situation for Adam because he’s a young player developing.

"We had a situation with Adam Campbell+ not so long ago, where he got fast-tracked and he got thrown in and everybody thought he was going to be the next Franco Zola, or whatever, and he wasn’t.

"It affected him. I don’t want the same thing happening to Adam Armstrong.

"What Adam needs at this football club is to be out on loan – playing in the Championship or in League One for a good season – and we almost let him do that until Papiss (Cisse) got suspended.

"He was on his way to Bolton or Forest. He needs a good season out on loan, in the Championship, banging in goals, as part of his development.

"But because of the circumstances* we’ve had to keep hold of him, keep him in the squad, and use him sparingly."

* as well as Cisse's stupidity, those circumstances include: Siem De Jong's collapsed lung, Emmanuel Riviere's lack of quality and Facundo Ferreyra's inability to get match fit.

+ regarding Adam Campbell, five substitute appearances totaling 54 minutes over ten months hardly counts as being fast-tracked.

By contrast, Armstrong has already racked up 17 outings since his debut in March 2014 and should have been loaned out last August - after featuring in seven first team pre-season fixtures.

Instead though, a flawed transfer policy that failed to compensate for the long-term absence of Cisse due to a knee injury from last April saw Armstrong stay at SJP.

To say that his current situation is due to Cisse's seven match ban is disingenuous, with yet another missed opportunity to bolster the forward line back in the January transfer window.
