Alan Shearer contract latest: long gone

Shearer has an amazing end of season,  Kinnear gets moved 'upstairs'/out the back door and Wise gets shot and then Shearer takes it on perminantly in the summer.

Someone make it happen.

All things considered this would be a dream scenario at this point.

No matter what you say about Kinnear I don't see him being difficult when it comes to working with someone in the DOF position and Shearer is strong enough and respected enough to make his voice heard.

God do we need a boost right now.

A desperate move by the club, if it turns out to be true. Just wonder why the hell Shearer would agree to come in - now of all times?

Cos he knows he could potentially do something about us dropping out of the premiership??

It's a month too late, if it happens. Could be setting himself up for a huge fall if we do go down. Ashley must really be desperate to win the fans back over.

If it's true, I hope he can turn it around. I just don't have a good feeling about it at all.

The thing is though, if we go down then it's a good time for him to take the reins anyway.

Shearer has come out before and said he would never work for Ashley under his system didn't he..? Can't see it happening lads..

'Unconfirmed reports that Alan Shearer will take over as manager till end of season'

Sky Sports News understands that Newcastle United are set to appoint Alan Shearer in a managerial capacity for the remainder of the season.

Current boss Joe Kinnear is currently recovering from heart surgery and he was due to meet cardiologists next Monday to determine if he is fit to return to the touchline.

However, it has been suggested that he could move to a role upstairs, possibly as director of football, and St James' Park legend Shearer could be set to take over.

The 18th-placed Magpies are battling Premier League relegation and are desperate for a boost to escape the drop zone.

More to follow...

Surely even Sky wouldn't lower themselves to reporting this for hours purely for a prank?

Indeed. If it's a joke I'm pretty sure they'll be part of the ones being had.

Very interesting stuff!

I imagine it's more likely to be an April Fool by the person who gave the "Unconfimed report" to Sky than Sky themselves.  Surely they know how little sense of humour the butt of the joke would have about that, they might as well do an April Fool about a terrorist attack in London or the Pope dying.

EDIT: But then we get stupid "unconfirmed reports" and equally crazy real events happening pretty much every day of the year, it's no surprise if it's one or the other that's just fallen on April the 1st.

David Craig saying he's heard it from several "well-respected" sources, though it does just take one joker to start it all off.
