If he signs a new contract he's guaranteed to get a major injury within the next 6 months.

Fucking rubbish. Offers absolutely nothing unless it's right there for him on a plate; and even then he needs a fucking high-chair and spoonfeeding to take the simplest of chances. He's probably still a quality player underneath it all, but in our situation he's not the one we need as he offers bugger all in such a side.

I was watching him closely tonight to see what this Captain thing was all about. And that's a facade aswell. Captain my arse.

Get him out the club.

Out of all those 11 players tonight he'd actually be the very last one you'd identify as a captain, it's pathetic that he was ever given the armband

My honest answer is that I really dont know. People are too quick to write him off as finished, when we saw last season that in a formation that he compliments other team members in and vice versa, he is a very effective player. The question has to be who the replacement would be, rather than anything though.

I wasn't disappointed when Milner left; the money was excellent for him, but it wasn't spent so it means fuck all.

Oh how I wait for this thread to change if he scores against Fulham...

That said, I voted yes.

If Martins decides to declare himself fit, i dont think Owen will get on the pitch.

As ive said before, hes a cherry on top kind of player.

If the team is passing and moving well...creating chances, he'll start getting goals. He always always does in a decent side.

At the moment, we can all see he isnt doing much. Mostly down to us not creating much for him before recently & these last couple games hes just looked out of it. Yet still had two key chances to score goals for us. So that would show that even at his worst he still has the movement.

Martins may have scuffed his shot yesterday & gotten lucky, but the control right before it to go past the tackle wasnt luck. That was skill, owen wouldnt have done that & we may not have won because of it. So in terms of Subs, al got it bang on with both of them. Full of running & energy.

Still think Owen has a place here though, he's still a class finisher when hes on form...we wont be able to replace that. He could alone be the difference in us going from an average to a good side when hes on form. I reckon under Al he can get him back there.

Needs to take a paycut tho yes, should never have been made captain either. Something else i hope AL will sort out. As much as i believe in the lads ability, hes never ever had the mentality of a captain/motivator.

I hate him when he doesn't score

I love him when he does score

No doubt he's a top player, people saying otherwise are deluded. What annoys me with Owen is his ridiculous high wages, and the fact that he's made of glass. I'm so sick of reading "ouch, it's my knee again, but this time I'm sure that the specialists on Mars will help me get back to my best".

I know I'll be gutted when he leaves on the free (the capitalist in me would like a decent fee for him) and joins another EPL side, and then proceed to score against us. On the other hand I agree with what Ronaldo says:

He's the club's biggest earner, and we have quite a few others there as well, earning far more than their contribution justify. On their current wages I do expect them to preformance at least enough to secure us a euro qual., but look at where we are.

Bye bye Michael. Go to Celtic son. You can play one in every 4 games there, and have plenty of time for your horsees. We don't want/need you any more.

It worked very well when he was initially given it mind. Coincided with his best run of form for the club and it really seemed to get him inspired. I remember the 4-1 at spurs in particular I felt he really played the part of a captain very well.

I am pretty sure at a new club he will do well and then everyone will be saying that Newcastle as a club brought him down and now he's moved away the "real" Mickey Owen is back.

I don't care if he does well with another club right now, he just isn't working for us for whatever reason. I was over the moon when he signed even though it was a fortune. A lot of outsiders feel sorry for Owen but it was his choice, he was so desperate to leave Madrid that he chose us and got paid a fortune for it, there is nothing to feel sorry about. He has been unlucky with injurys, the one at Spurs springs to mind and the one for England, you cannot account for that, they were not niggly injuries either.

I want rid of him now, I am sick and tired of waiting for players to come good at this club. He's been shit for us, okay lets move on. I really hope Loven starts with the Duke against Fulham, can't see that happening though, then again I couldn't see him being dropped v Liverpool.

I don't think we can risk starting Oba given his injuries, I am happy for him to be an impact player from the bench.

That's my main concern about letting him go, as silly as it seems.

Owen looked a very unhappy man last night. He couldn't get involved, and he must be conscious that he's not exactly a favourite of the crowd. With being the Captain and the expectations that come with his wages, he looked burdened and embarrassed.

Regardless of whether we stay up, or even whether we offer him more money than other interested clubs, I think he'll want out. And I think he'll go to any of the North West clubs that want him - Everton, Man City, Wigan, Blackburn, whoever.

I thought about this after I posted last night, and to be fair to the guy he could have come away from the match with at least two goals to his name... not sure if that makes a difference but he is starting to get a few chances.

After having given this some thought I reckon Owen should be offered a new contract after all. We should wait till Everton or Celtic make him an offer, probably less than half of what we are paying him, and match those terms. If he still wants to stay he's welcome, if not then take the next fucking helicopter home.

It's a team game & Owen simply doesn't offer enough to the team's overall play to warrant a place in the side.

Every one of our strikers offers something to the way the team plays, whether it's pace, strength, heading ability, etc.  Owen offers none of these.  He's in the side because he's supposed to be our best finisher, but he's not scored in months nor has he even looked like scoring.  We're relying on his timing to get himself into positions to score, but even if his reading of the game is perfect he lacks the physical ability to get into scoring positions by either outpacing or out-muscling defenders.

Add that he's the club captain despite having all the leadership abilities of a dead rabbit.

He's still a good striker - but not half the man he was

He needs to PRODUCE - and he's not.

Simple as

I read elsewhere people saying he'd get 20+ in a better team

Thats as may be, but I have a feeling those days are gone for Michael

And his next team will find that out. And it WON'T be a top 4 side. Which is what he's angling for.

One things certain - his next club won't even pay what Ashleys offered him here.
