He's trying to cobble together some investment money and wanted to confirm my interest. He must have had a comma or decimal out of place as he thought I had quite a bit more than the $16, 238.59 I've raised. When I insisted on pledgeing the amount in full (less travel and lodging to sign the deal) he said he'd get back to me and hung up. He did say that he expected it all to go down this week, Wednesday at the latest. Shearer was to be named and there would be in excess of 10M in the transfer kitty with 3 and possibly 4 players already lined up and ready to sign. Look at the small touches than bring a sense of realism, and the fact he's written it in first-person also lends authenticity to the piece. Great work. That's how I understood it. To be honest I lost interest a while ago, if the season hadn't have started when it did I'd probably just watch a different sport this season.
