Thespence
England's third choice keeper: Jack Butland. Spain's third choice keeper: Pepe Reina. Netherlands' third choice keeper: Tim Krul.
Jack Flash
England's third choice keeper: Jack Butland. Spain's third choice keeper: Pepe Reina. Netherlands' third choice keeper: Tim Krul. Probably works even better with the second choices. 1 injury to Hart and it's all over.
mrmojorisin75
Very serious questions need to be asked about why England have got such a small pool of players who are capable of being called up to the squad. There's some deeply embarrassing names in there when you consider the PL is claimed to be the best in the world and England in general is supposed to be a footballing superpower. no-one wants to know, the PL's interest is making money for itself as is the clubs involved in it....only thing that will ever change our game is the money drying up Yet none of the clubs in it actually make any money pretty sure individuals (players, managers, directors, chairmen etc.) all do pretty well out of it i see your point though, many clubs have to over-extend to even stay in the league but the alternative is to be someone like middlesbrough, put everything into your youth setup and hope it keeps you afloat it doesn't
ATB
So sad for Ruddy, he really seemed to looking forward to it I also though he would be a great second goalie (even if he problebly would have been third choice...). And England has always been dependent to Hart. But what the hell Roy. What about Frasier?! Buggs me that Krul is only number third in Holland. Because of 2nd and 4th choice goalkeepers that almost certainly won't be used anyway during the tournament?
Mole_Toonfan
Our second choice is Rob Green. Robert f***ing Green. Spain's fourth choice is David de Gea. We're so s*** man. Although your right.... Spain's collection of goalkeepers is truly insane they make most teams GK depth look shit.

Because of 2nd and 4th choice goalkeepers that almost certainly won't be used anyway during the tournament? Does depth not matter like? If Hart gets injured, we have to pick Rob Green or a 'keeper whose been playing in League 2 this season. If Casillas picks up an injury, they have the choice of three others who aren't a great deal worse than he is. Could be done for pretty much any position. Rooney's out for the first two, we have to go with Carroll or Welbeck. Villa is out for Spain, they now have the choice of Torres, Soldado and Llorente. That's before even getting to the likes of Negredo.

AyeDubbleYoo
different manager same poor selections from the usual teams they come from, the national team needs a big shake up its pathetic really lost interest in England ages ago its just boring now Who would you call up who hasn't been though? I think the same as FilFlop really, but then I always end up with this conclusion too. I would make a few different selections (Johnson, Carrick, Richards) but that's more detail than wholesale philosophy. Gutted that Wilshere isn't available. Legacy
I don't know much about england u21 team but does England have any creative midfielders? I know Wilshere was one before he took up the dm role v barca. Cleverly?
AyeDubbleYoo
Isn't Cleverly injured as well? Wilshere and him are probably our best midfield.
Sifu
Quite looking forward to tomorrow's game. Will be interesting/intriguing to see how Roy lines them up - as long as we've worked on how to keep the ball effectively, I shall be content.

ElDiablo
At the minute we're stuck in a bit of a hard place as we've not got a lot of players in their peak. Only Rooney and Parker I'd say are playing near to their full potential recently. The rest are either talented but inexperienced and/or young, or past their best. You'd like to think we'll be a lot better off in 2014 with Jones, Smalling, Bertrand, Walker, Cleverley, Ox, Wilshere, Sturridge, Welbeck, even Carroll having had 2 extra years of regular football. The biggest problem is there's no emerging holding midfielder looking like breaking through anytime soon, it's such an important position in international football and one we've been found wanting for as long as I've been following football properly. Yes, although you're quite unlikely to use four different 'keepers throughout a tournament, I read his post as a reference to the general strength in depth countries such as Spain have/we lack. Couple of Everton fans I know think he's average at best.
