The College Dropout
There's really not much of a drop-off from Cole to Baines, and certainly not to the extent that it'll cost England games in Brazil. Hard to say Baines hasn't earned the right to start either and it opens up a spot in the squad for Shaw, the presumptive starting LB of the future. Defensively? Potentially massive and could cost goals. Tbh I don't want to start too many players that have never even played in the CL. We could possibly have 6 starters who have never faced continental opposition at the highest level.
The College Dropout
Smalling and Jones would always be going anyway as CB back-up so it makes sense to only take one RB. Yep said this earlier. Great mvoe.
The College Dropout
Milner is such an underrated player Agreed. The fact both Pellegrini, Mancini & the last 2-3 England managers have used him indicate that he's a good player. He shouldn't start but he's a very viable option off the bench. A smart and tactically aware player. IMO he should play ahead of Lampard. In fact, Lampard is lucky to even be in the squad. He doesn't offer a lot defensively, his engine has gone, his passing is not brilliant and he hasn't scored many goals this season. He's Chelsea's 4th choice CM behind Matic, Ramires & Luiz. And tbh even Mikel has looked better in recent months.
Mole_Toonfan
We'll get through the groups, Uruguay apart from Suarez are bang average and they are not who they used to be. Would have included Cavani in that but he's crap for them due to the fact he plays on the wing spending more time being another fullback than in the box. After that who knows really. The College Dropout
A front four of Rooney-Sturridge-Lallana-Sterling is just frightening imo, with two deep-lying playmaker like Lampard and Gerrard capable of pintpoint passing, a good defensive blok, England can really do something. Low pressure when defending, drawing the opposition up the field, pulling them out of formation and as soon as you get the ball back, quickly exploit the gaps to start a couter-attack. I sincerely hope Hodgson has watched both Madrid's clubs this year, cause that is really how he should be playing with the players at his disposal. At least against stronger nations... 2 men that have played together for a decade and have never looked comfortable alongside each other. 2 players that can't run. With extremely poor lateral movement. 2 players with poor defensive positioning & anticipation. There is no way they should start together. And if they do - it shouldn't be with Lallana & Sterling alongside them. Both the Madrid sides have had the core of the same teams for the last 3 years. Atletico are by far the best team in Europe by a country-mile. It's the synergy of the team and coach that's getting them results not natural ability. Can't compare any national side to them. Real have probably the 3 out of the 5 best counter attacking players in the world in the team. And a CM capable of battling away and skipping past 3 challenges if need be to relieve pressure. We have none of that. Comparing this England side to 2 of the best teams in the world wil result in us getting battered.
The College Dropout
Shitloads of English players have been in the top per cent of performers this season, man. Including Rooney. What about the Champions League? Which England players played really well in that? Even in the PL the very best players have been Urugayan, Ivorian and IMO the best British player has been Welsh. I too think we'll get out the group. Just because we always do. We'll get a 1-0 against one of the better teams. We are good at that. Italy abd Uruguay are the type of nations to do brilliantly or crap at big tournaments. We've always been more consistent. I'd be shocked if we could get to a SF. Haven't had a look at the draw but QF is the best I think we can do. Good thing this time is that we are an unknown elementr. But I don't think we have the mental fortitude to make a big impression. Trumpet
Glen J either plays like prime Cafu, or a substitute sunday league player. At least that's how he was this season for Liverpool. Sadly, it's the latter 75% of the time. If he had any real competition in the England squad, he shouldn't be going to Brazil. Will thank him for his service and gladly get rid of him in summer. One of the most frustrating players out there.
SEMTEX
So SS twitter claims ruddy isn't going to make the squad and Flanagan is in the standby posse. Does this mean the previous leak may be in correct, and Williamson still may have a chance of going to Brazil?
KDT
Flanagan was absolutely turd yesterday. I wouldn't have him on the standby list.

Taylor Swift
Hodgson is right in taking some kids. Old legs won't last more than 60 minutes in that heat.
Neil
Lambert makes it. Would've much preferred Rodriguez ideally, but in the circumstances got no qualms taking Lambert.

triggs
Bit strange that Gibbs doesn't seem to even be in the reckoning for this squad. He's better than Shaw at this moment in time IMO

Interpolic
It's funny like. Suppose the only people it really inconveniences or affects are the journalists, but still. Vauxhall will have been mentioned on loads of news sites and social media, so job done. It's the sort of thing Sports Direct refuses to pay for.
