Harper's certainly w*** but i think we're jumping the gun if we're saying Krul's better than him. If only for the fact we haven't seen enough of him to judge yet. I'd like to think he is, though.

If we're picking teams on merit - Krul should be playing against Reading. If Smith keeps his place even though Guthrie's back from injury - i don't see why the same shouldn't happen with Krul and Harper.

then why did you choose him for your team vs WBA?

Was a Legend yesterday.

Loved the two slow-mo replays they showed of him.

First one after his first save he was clenching both FISTS and shouting "Come on!"

Second one Saylor comes up to him and nuts him, whilst screaming at him, then pulls his hair after another blinding save.

Will be hard to sit back on the bench, we will have to see if Harper is fit enough for next week, good to know we have such a great deputy.

Ha. Sneaky bugger. I don't know really, only through not knowing a thing about Krul i think. Palermo was years ago.

lol @ Harper.

Waits a decade to finally get his 1st team spot after playing second fiddle to a top keeper, then in that season were relegated and now totally outclassed by a kid in half a game  O0

Dunno, torn on this one. Krul made saves which were physically impossible for Harper to make, he's just too slow and stationary, then again he's got a lot more experience and we've yet to see Krul under pressure. Both games for Krul were win/win for him, whatever happened he wouldn't be to blame.

If we got a decent bid for Harper say £2m+ then i'd let him go and bring in a older more experienced backup for Krul if the pressure does get to him.

I think Krul (yes I've only seen him against Palermo and yesterday) would win us more points than Harper. Harper doesn't do errors that costs us points, but he's definately not a keeper that makes those kind of matchwinning saves.

His flapping cost us the first goal. Lucky for him Coloccini was on the pitch to take all the blame, but it was poor judgement that led to the keeper being off his line and the ball bouncing behind him in front of an empty net.

Harper 100% takes the blame for that goal like. He didn't organise the defense in the first place - he had about three yellow shirts around him, which ultimately actually impeded him - and then flapped at the cross itself. Recipe for disaster that; they were always gonna score from that.

Saying that - the set piece came almost directly from one of ours up the other end. A rubbish ball into the box when you've got so many players up is, again, a total recipe for disaster. Taylor shouldn't have whipped the ball in when he had a couple of short options. We need to learn to play it safe and keep the ball in situations like that. Especially away from home against good sides, cos we're very susceptible to counter-attacks such is the lack of pace.

Everything was pretty horrific from our point of view.

R.Taylor shouldn't have taken the free kick in the first place, it was pretty much on the half way line on the opposite side of the pitch and he came over from right back, Carson grabbed it and they attacked down the vacant right back position where R.Taylor would have been had Enrique taken the free kick, we don't need a specialist free kick taker to be taking free kicks from there.

Id get shot of Harper for a pack of Tudor crisps, nevermind £2 million, tbh.

I think it is inevitable that we will lose him at some point because if he does realise his potential, there is no way we will be able to keep him.  All of the top clubs in Europe are aware of him (didn't the Juventus goalkeeping coach predict that he would be the next Buffon a few years ago) but he has many years ahead of him so I hope we get to see the first few here.

Not sure about first choice at this stage but I would like to see him get more chances eg. being played in the cup games.  He certainly needs to be playing more often at a higher level than the reserves for his development.  And if Harper was to get injured, I wouldn't be worried about him stepping up.

Did anyone notice the commentator the other day say that half the Newcastle fans at game had probably never heard of Krul before....

Nope, i did hear one of them say 'and this is why he's so highly thought of by the Newcastle fans' when making a spectacular save.

Commentators contradicting themselves?? Well I never.

i thought the commentary was pretty shocking throughout the match to be honest.

i'm sure i remember him saying something along the lines of (one of our players was chasing a ball he couldn't get to) how the player was chasing after something unrealistic, something the fans have done for a long time

Wouldn't surprise me Lenny. Its well known in the media that we are all the thickest fans who only like Shearer and Keegan, whereas Spurs and Liverpool fans are 'the most knowledgable' fans in the country. Its all bollocks of course, but we love being told what we think and what we know.

It wasn't Lawrenson it was the other guy, to which Lawrenson followed up with a cracker like "That's just Krul".

Was speaking to Lawro outside the ground, even stopped for a photo. I used to despise the guy, now I just hate him.

He made some great saves and commanded his area a lot more than Given used to, but I think he needs to relax a bit, he seemed to be trying to come for everything and he's all-action. The best keepers appear to cruise through games - he'll be quality in years to come but needs to mature.

Yeah this is a fair analysis. He was good but somewhat giddy, which could lead to mistakes. He just needs experience, which will only come with time I guess. Very good prospect though.
