Joey Barton

I don't blame him for going. Massive risk for his career mind, less so than Nolan but still the pair of them hardly look like ambitious players.

Barton didn't look ambitous? Have a word.

How did he look ambitious? He's gone from a team who play in front of 45-50k each week, to one that struggles to fill an 18k stadium. One that has barely made the back pages, despite being owned by two of the world's richest men for the past few seasons.

He wasn't wanted here anymore. He still hasn't signed the contract there. We'll see but, if he signs there, it won't be because they're better club than we are, but because they have an owner who isn't totally stupid.

if they give him 100k a week then I am going to call him stupid

They haven't, have they?

If they give him even half of that for 5 years I'll call him stupid.

Joey will be 34 by then, so no, not then.

Who gives a fuck if he's shown no ambition, man? How exactly could he have shown ambition?

He had the choice of staying at a club that didn't want him or moving to a lesser club. The big teams were never going to come in for him, this doesn't mean getting rid is somehow a stroke of genius.

Some may take pleasure from watching Joey get relegated this season, but nothing positive has came out of this saga for NUFC.

Agreed. This is an awful transfer for us. Absolutely have to go out and spend money on a replacement in the few days we have left. Not going to be easy and leaving business this late guarantees having to pay a premium. Of course we probably won't even be looking for a replacement knowing the dicks who run this club.

Barton's kicking off about a new contract now because he's just come off the back off a good season (just like Nolan did). He talked about being one of the best midfielders in England last season after doing nothing for his first 3 years in Newcastle.

If he was genuinely ambitious, he would be confident enough to know that he can continue to perform at the same level this season and be in a MUCH stronger position to renegotiate a new deal with NUFC (by Xmas) or with another team next June.

That's how Barton shows his ambition. Not by piddling off to some newly promoted team at the first sign of $$$

Stay, play well and let the chips fall where they may. I don't think anyones said it was genius, so you're arguing with no one on that. I'd love him to stay, but I'm not going to cry if he leaves.

How can he bang on about ambition then go to whatever club offers him a silly contract? Shouldn't play the 'salt of the earth, mans man footballer' then act like all the twats he pretends he isn't.

Horseshit. He spouted all that crap on twitter about how he loves this club yet jumps ship at the first opportunity. Do people really think he wouldnt get as good/better opportunities this time next year if he stayed?

Seriously though, when people see Barton getting £80k a week for 3-years, and Nolan getting £55k a week for 5 years, can you:

a) Blame the club for not matching.

b) Blame the player for not turning it down.

It depends. For one, I don't think it'd have taken £80k a week over three years to keep Barton.
