Dokko
I liked him, thought he'd do better at Reading, guess this was it for him, his best days.

Its a good lesson for Simpson what happens when you reach for more and end up losing out. He will sign for a promoted team no doubt and end up in the same boat. Indeed, although I think Guthrie is better than Simpson (obviously not in direct comparison).
Dokko
Simpsons on return has been ok IMHO. A lot better than the one we saw before the transfer window. He's decent backup (i wouldnt have said that before his injury) but he wants more than that and probably just about deserves it.
Guest firetotheworks
He can take corners that aren't exclusively shit. That's pretty much the only difference he'd have made imo.

Cant see Danny S doing a great deal better, suppose Watford will need mercanaries if they come up
Tiotes Witch Doctor
Would take him back personally if he was willing to play his old role as bit part player.
Zero
Would rather play Anita in that role.
LFEE
He would've helped personally... Reminds me a little bit when the majority wanted rid of Lee Clark out the first team (no pace/goals etc) then when he's gone you realise what he did... Comparing him to his replacement he has a better range of passing than Anita and better at dead balls and tracking back...
Ryan_Taylor
Main memory of Guthrie is him smashing that c*** Fagan. Anah it's awful and that, but never was someone so deserving of a good hoofing. http://img.thesun.co.uk/multimedia/archive/00697/73_guthrie_280x390_697350a.jpg

Ronaldo
As I've said, incredibly he would've started most of our games this season.
Tachikoma
I like Guthrie better than Anita tbh, in CM at least. Pity Guthrie had the mental strength of an amoeba.
TRon
This is the sort of thread bumping that Pardew's management has led to. I fully expect a Nolan thread to be bumped if we lose next week.

Things Pardew is to blame for, No. 498: Bumping of threads on Internet forum. I was going to leave this but then I thought, fuck it...it is the daft cunt's fault. Only this prick could have made our current squad look so inept that people are dredging up mediocre former players who were moved on to clubs like Reading. Tiotes Witch Doctor
Would happily see him in the side ahead of Anita, Perch, Tiote and even Sissoko at the moment.
AyeDubbleYoo
Would happily see him in the side ahead of Anita, Perch, Tiote and even Sissoko at the moment. Absolute madness.
Ronaldo
Mentioning Sissoko makes it madness, tbh. I think a fit and happy Guthrie generally brings more to the table than any of the first 3 have this season.
Pilko
I'd 100% have him in ahead of Tiote at the moment, definitely not ahead of Sissoko though, that's absolutely barking. As for the other two, it would depend on the opposition and venue of the game. I'd rather see Perch in an away game than Guthrie, for example. Ronaldo
Depends on who it is away, but yeah, generally.
oldtype
Yes, because obviously Guthrie would have been completely immune to the drop in form that's afflicted just about everyone this season.

Away games generally require a bit more 'digging in' in midfield and Guthrie usually looked plugged after about an hour or so. I'm still haunted by his non-performance at WBA in Hughton's last game. Yeah, although I do agree that Guthrie would have had his uses I don't know what the fuck anyone would be expecting from him in this years side? He would more than likely be as shit, if not worse as/than the rest of them.
