Shola Ameobi

Out for two months, according to the club.  It's his career in a nutshell, isn't it? He's shit for half an eternity, then finds some incredible form, and is injured after a short spell of bumbling brilliance.

He's what - 28 now? I can't remember too many spells he's had where he's injury free, even when he's playing he's usually complaining of some sort of niggle which is preventing him from performing at 100%. I was pleased for him after his fantastic start because he's come in for some awful stick down the years, but the fact is he's a perma-crock.

Don't know if anybody noticed this but;

Ameobi ahead of schedule

Magpies striker set to return earlier than expected from foot injury

Chris Hughton expects Shola Ameobi to return to first-team action sooner than initially expected.

The Newcastle striker has not played since the end of August having been sidelined with a stress fracture of his foot.

The 28-year-old was not expected back until Christmas, but it has now been discovered that the frontman could be fit to feature by early December.

Ameobi was in scintillating form before his injury, scoring five goals in five games, and despite the Magpies recently bringing in Marlon Harewood on loan it seems the team are missing his presence having scored just one goal in their last two games.

"The good news with Shola is that he has had no adverse reaction to the original injury and he's started doing work on it again," he told The Chronicle.

Pre-Christmas return

"He's with us over this fortnight and he's continuing to work at it. We are looking at a pre-Christmas return for Shola, and we'e thinking it should be early December at the moment which would obviously be a big boost for everyone because he is a big player for us.

"He is with us at the moment and I think it is a slightly frustrating time for him because he cannot really do any weight-bearing training with the foot at the moment.

"Obviously the most important thing is making sure he is right, so we don't want to rush anything, but his progress has been quite good.

"In his absence we've managed to get Marlon Harewood and he has brought some quality to the squad, but obviously the more players that we have capable of scoring goals the better, so it would be good to have him back."

Fucks sake. Just spent £55 having AMEOBI 23 printed on my shirt!

How the hell did it cost you £55 to get Ameobi printed on your shirt?

Pound a letter, fiver for a number, so the top is 39. Ouch. I thought they used to do squad members for 5-6 pound.

Comments from Chris Hughton regarding the number 23:

"Shola (Ameobi) will train with the Reserves on Monday before joining in with the rest of the squad on Tuesday after Preston. He has made good progress and we're delighted to welcome him back.

"It was disappointing for Shola to miss out after the start he had, but he'll be looking to get back to that level and we certainly hope he can because he was excellent for us during those first few weeks."

The striker - who recently celebrated his 28th birthday - scored five goals in as many appearances at the start of the season, but has been sidelined since sustaining a foot injury in the Carling Cup win over Huddersfield in August.
