Park Chu-Young has acquired a 10-year residency permit from the Principality of Monaco, which allows him to delay his military service until the expiry of his reidency provided he does not live or work in the Republic of Korea during that period.

All we need to do now is get him the f*** out of Arsenal.

Just to add on to this, the deal Arsenal had with Monaco was apparently a 3m initial fee with an add-on of 9m if Park could at any point get out of his national service.

So Arsenal are about to fork up an extra 9 million Euros. For a player who never plays

Where did you hear about the extra 9million part? Any links to articles?

Does he have any specific knowledge of Abidal's case?

He said that the problem isn't that he won't make a full recovery, but that the transplanted organ would be vulnerable to trauma, and that he shouldn't participate in a contact sport like football.

John Fashanu Claims Brother Justin Wasn't Gay - He Just Wanted Attention

By Samuel Luckhurst

John Fashanu has claimed his brother Justin was not gay.

Justin Fashanu, who committed suicide nearly 14 years ago, is the only British footballer to come out as a homosexual.

But his brother contested his sexuality in an on-air interview with talkSPORT.

John Fashanu said: "I don't believe he was gay.

"It's taken [my daughter] a long time to understand that Justin wasn't really gay. He just wanted attention."

His brother came out as gay in October 1990 in an exclusive interview with The Sun newspaper. A week later, his brother John agreed to an exclusive with The Voice, which was headlined: "John Fashanu: My Gay Brother is an outcast."

He revealed he had disowned his brother, however Fashanu expressed regret at the treatment of Justin after his suicide in 1998.

Fashanu's daughter Amal led a BBC documentary called "Britain's Gay Footballers", which aired in January, and was critical of her father's reaction.

"It was very upsetting to see the old news reports of my father disowning his own brother," she says.

"I was only ten when it happened and my parents wanted to protect me. After my parents split up, I grew up with my mother in Madrid and although I heard things, I never discussed it with my father.

"I knew he had not approved of Justin’s lifestyle, but the extent of his disloyalty was a shock," she told The Daily Mail.

Amal has since launched the Justin Campaign, which aims to tackle homophobia in football.

“I don’t believe he was gay. Number two, I don’t believe he had affairs with MPs and number three I don’t believe he was having an affair with one of the young ladies from Coronation Street – it was just nonsense. Showbiz.

“If you had a brother who came out and said, ‘Hey listen, I’m gay’ we’d welcome you, say ‘No problem’ but if you had someone who came out and said, ‘I’m a spaceman’ when you’re not a spaceman then that’s a bit silly.

“It’s a macho man’s game and I think there are reasons why we haven’t had any gay footballers come out. I don’t believe there will be. I’m not saying there aren’t some there, but I can tell you in twenty years of playing all my matches I have never come across a gay footballer.

“I’m not someone who says, ‘I’ve got black friends, they’re all good people.’ I’m not going to say ‘I’ve got gay friends, who are all good people.’ It’s unfortunate because I don’t believe he was, and if he was, who gives a rat’s arse? So what? But don’t go and sell your stories or make up stories for money for goodness sake. I’m heterosexual, will I make it on to the front page of the newspapers?”

“My daughter was very close to her uncle and it has taken a long time for her to understand that Justin wasn’t really gay, he just wanted attention. I remember Justin coming out with another story about him dating Coronation Street lady as well. Again, that was another made up story to get front pages. When I said this to Justin he’d say, ‘I need publicity, I need publicity.’ That was where he’d derive his attention and his money.

“It wasn’t the fact of him being gay, or whether he’s white or whether he’s black, that was never a concern to me whatsoever. What was a concern to me was somebody going and screaming on the rooftops “I’m black” or “I’m heterosexual” or “I’m gay” to get publicity or money. Making up stories to get attention.”

"I had to look at my mother who had cancer at the time, I had to take the mantle of being head of the family because Justin was not acting accordingly. My mum could not understand for the life of her she couldn’t understand this man, her son, so I made it clear that I could do whatever’s necessary to protect my family. Some people might say it’s selfish, my daughter said to me, ‘You’re my Daddy, I love you, but you were selfish, you disowned your brother.’ I said, ‘I didn’t disown my brother, but I pushed him further away because of the challenges that he was going to bring into our family.”

When asked what he thought when he heard about his brother’s suicide, he said: “What does one think? Obviously you’re devastated. Ironically, two days beforehand I said to one of my brothers, ‘We have a challenge here. I think that Justin, the way he’s talking, he’s become a loose cannon.’ I couldn’t get hold of him. I couldn’t get to him. If I gave him money, he was like a bar of soap. If I do this, it’ll go the other way.

“It was very difficult to show him love, to try and put our arms round him because once we’d spent the evening together, we’ve had a lovely dinner, we’ve all talked and kissed and cuddled and made up it was wonderful and then we’d hear another story in the newspaper. It was a very challenging situation.

“The whole family was devastated, no more than my mother because on the day, the 19 February, the day he committed suicide, one year later was the day she died. So I lost my mother and I lost my brother and that’s what I was trying to do. I was trying not to lose my brother and trying not to lose my mother. I might have been able to reach out with an olive branch instead of reaching out with a cane.”

As much as I dislike Barca and their players - that's horrible news for him. Feeling genuinly sorry for him.

Ah, does not sound good then. Let's hope that's not the case.

But now I'm reminded of Klasnic... didn't he play with a transplanted liver too? (although he took almost 1 year off IIRC).

EDIT: checked, it was a kidney. Dunno if that makes a difference regarding this issue.

Klasnic only has one kidney too.

Terrible news like and obviously a massive blow, just hope the blokes health is OK regardless if he can play again.

Maybe should've kept ahold of Maxwell? (Despite him being fairly average)

Maxwell put in a transfer request, we would have hold on him until the end of the season. Still, he was pants defensively. Losing Abidal will be a massive loss indeed. Adriano will cope well in La Liga but he'll suffer against world class wingers in the CL. Wouldn't be completely surprised to see Pep deploy Puyol there.

Estanislao Basora passed away today also. RIP.

Legend for us, wasn't aware he was known outside of Spain.

Always been a bit of a Barca fan myself, without sounding too glory hunter-ish, so know a bit about their history and great players etc.

Btw V.I. I've seen a few sources saying that Muniesa will come in to play left back, what do you reckon?

Happy to hear that, Basora was an integral part of our 1950s team, which was considered our all-time best side until, well, the current one. Kubala, Moreno, Basora and Manchón, legendary forward line.

Muniesa is a good prospect, and unlike Adriano a more defensive-minded LB. But he barely has senior experience and would be a bit much to throw him against the likes of Robinho and Cronaldo.

Probably hasn't got enough to his offensive game but defensively he'd cut it in my opinion.

We were looking at an offensive LB to complement Abidal, and Alba was the one most linked. But with Abidal out of the picture I'm not sure if we'll prefer somebody to fill in his role as the more defensive fullback to complement Alves at the other side. We'll see in the summer I guess.
