Montey Posted August 15, 2020 Share Posted August 15, 2020 Just as an FYI - on occasions I have had some NUST emails arrive 24-48 hours after they said it was sent (e.g. NUST say on Twitter it's been sent, but I don't receive it in my inbox until 24-48 hours later). Pity so many fans at the time couldn’t see that they were trying to do playain’t the long game and build some sort of relationship with the EPL by not washing their dirty laundry in public. In fact I think quite a few on here have I don’t think I have, after Rafa resigned this debate was had, and the trust raised all the reasons they should continue to engage with the club. Greg Posted August 18, 2020 Share Posted August 18, 2020 Not enough, that's for sure, despite being established in response to Ashley's horrific running of the club. For the majority of its existence has been ineffectual, hence as an entirely new Board we've been re-building it from scratch over the last 18 months. I can only speak for the current board, a fair few who have done far more than most to try and get rid of Ashley under previous guises be that through Ashley Out, previous iterations of The Magpie Group (initially formed through NUST in 2018) etc. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

That’s my understanding of what the view was... that is was important to keep engaged with the club for non-Ashley out reasons like ticketing etc. And that it wasn’t the trust’s place to lead a protest movement. Stifler Posted August 19, 2020 Share Posted August 19, 2020 I’ve been a massive critic of the NUST in the past, however on the last year or so some of the board members have done quite a bit of work, Greg[/member] being a big part of that. They get a lot of stick for not being an official rotor at group, however what people don’t realise is that they are an official supporters group which is recognised by the FA and Premier League. As a result the club is duty bound to corporate with them (though the club being the club it is, it gets out of that as much as possible). The moment the NUST starts becoming a protest group is the moment they will be dropped by the FA, Premier League, and club. As soon as that happens the NUST will become nothing more than another supporters group which will be flooded by fans who have different opinions and people getting involved who suddenly see their name in Chronicle articles and let it takeover their ego. For the NUST it’s best that they do what they are doing. It’s best that they keep open their lines of communication between all parties in order to get the supporters views and concerns addressed. To put it simply, if the NUST became a protest group, there is no way they would be in a call with the Premier League today. There is no way they would have been able to get legal representation in regards to protesting at the strawberry land development. At the same time, it's lucky this takeover saga happened or they would be stuck talking to the wall engaging with a pointless club that doesn't care. What's happening now is great though, and I respect everyone doing it. It does show what a real fan movement can get done. At the end of the day everyone is in a very difficult position, having to think in ways that football fans just shouldn't have to.
