I'm not sure what to make of Beckford. He's developed a good reputation, but he's still stuck in League 1. Is he a bit of an under-acheiver, content to be a big fish in a small pond? Is there something wrong with his attitude that has put bigger clubs off?

I don't know, but I quite like the idea of seeing Beckford and Ranger operating together. Two good athletes who could really stretch a defence.

Boyd will sign for Birmingham, would be very suprised if he didnt. Beckford however, scored goals in league 1 but so did Simon Cox, a player who's struggles in the championship. We have to be looking at palyers that will do a job in the premier league next season, something I dont think Beckford will do.

Struggling with 6 in 12?

Any milage in us taking both? £3mil the pair?

Sell Carroll to Stoke and sign both Beckford & Boyd would be great.

And give us, what, five Championship-level forwards?

Edit: Skirge, you bell-end. You've edited that and made me look a plum.

Jermaine Beckford has put his £2million switch to Newcastle on hold - so he can help Leeds try to shoot down Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Beckford is close to striking a deal with Chris Hughton's Championship leaders that will see him move to St James' Park in the transfer window.

Beckford has become one of the hottest properties outside the Premier League.

But he is keen to delay his move to Tyneside so he can take his place in Simon Grayson's side for Sunday's FA Cup third round showdown with Sir Alex Ferguson's men.

The League One leaders are hoping to pull off a shock win over Sir Alex Ferguson's men and Beckford is desperate to have a crack at United.

A Leeds source said: "There is no way Jermaine will want to miss the chance to play United at Old Trafford.

"He might not be a Leeds player for too much longer, but his move can wait until after this tie has taken place."

from the Mirror...

well, question the source if you will, but sounds as if talks are a little bit further than we thought? total bollocks probably like!

I have some observations which some may agree with.

Firstly, Boyd is not a bad goal poacher at the level he plays at but it is noticeable that his goals return against top teams in the SPL and in europe is exceptionally low. He is a low level championship forward at best, somewhere in the mould of Reading or Peterbrough. I doubt at all if he could cut the mustard in the PL.

Secondly, Harewood may do a job in helping us get up. He has come into a bit of form recently but what do you do with him once the season is over and we are back in the PL. His record there is not brilliant and as he is unwanted by Villa or any other PL team for that matter, leads you to believe his days are numbered, especially at his age.

Thirdly, I wouldnt even consider Chopra. He is a championship forward at best and has proven in the past that he is limited at PL level.

Finally, Beckford is an unknown quality at our and PL levels. However, he is quick, has a knack of scoring vital goals and at a relatively low outlay, worth the risk on improving once we go up. He could end up being the new Andy Cole for us but I am sure that if he failed, we could get most of our money back from another team in the championship so imo, he is worth the risk above all other options in this list.

the star concurs though it sounds like bullshit to me, why would leeds play someone who wasnt going to be there shortly after in whats the biggest game for them in some time.

Didnt realise he had that many like but even so, like Cox I still think Beckford would struggle big time in the PL.

Definately not Boyd. Wouln't even get into our team now, don't let his goal record fool you, he's so easy for any decent defender to mark out of a game. Not sure about Beckford either, his record like Boyds is good but the time i've seen him play he hasn't looked anything special.

Anthony Stokes scores shitloads in Scotland and look how shit he was at the mackems, Samaras, Scott Mcdonald, Kenny Miller, Kevin Kyle all flops and the list goes on.

Boyd has one goal in his career against Celtic out of about 20+ attempts, the only team in that league close to Premiership standard, he's scored a massive 3 goals in Europe and his International goals are against the likes of the Faroe Islands and Lithuania. Kenny Miller has a far better record against good teams - 4 v Rangers, 3 v Celtic, 1 v Liverpool, 1 v Man Utd, 1 v Croatia, 1 v Italy and he works 1,000 x harder, but I wouldn't go near him either.

NEWCASTLE have opened the bidding war for Leeds United striker Jermaine Beckford with a £1.25m offer that has been rejected by the Elland Road club.

Newcastle United in 'prepared to spend money' shocker!

Sure it was pounds and not coffee tokens?

I can't believe they are asking £2m for a League 1 stiker who only has 6 months left on his contract and has given no indication that he is going to sing any extension, take the £1.25m run and get your self another striker for League one for half that price.
