It's beyond retarded. Teams with a bottomless pot of money are effectively ruining the game and the punishment is "send a little of that money our way and we'll say no more about it"  :(

Did anyone genuinely think that anything else was going to happen?

NUFC are the only ones "abiding by the rules" but you don't need to be that clever to that it's just a way for Ashley to not have to spend anything.

21 man squad from 25 is pretty significant mind if that part is true. Means 4 expensive players are more than likely going to not be registered and potentially move elsewhere.

Depends on whether they count HG slots though. You could easily get the Rodwells and Lescotts to sit out and it wouldn't affect them much.

A fine ffs - they're absolutely taking the p*ss

Wonder who gets that money btw??

It's divided amongst the clubs who've met their FFP conditions...

Champions League squad cut will particularly bite as 8 players must be locally trained. Even with 25-man squad #PSG struggled with this.

I actually think that these penalties are very good, although I expect appeals and for them to be reduced.

The squad restrictions will mean the big players wont be happy missing out on CL especially in the year after the WC where they typically could get a big transfer away.

The fines should mean that the clubs have to generate £50m more this year to reach the same P/L that they were fined for this year. In theory that means they will have to increase their revenue by £75-100m in a very short space of time or get hit with a more severe penalty

Probably just pay them more to hang around.

According to BBC "A wage cap could also be introduced on the errant clubs to ensure there is no rise on this season's squad wage bill for the Champions League."

The Champions League clubs?  Oh, great - give them more of the money!

Fair enough if it's distributed to all of the clubs in the top European leagues but still you're talking about a pittance once it's been divided, so it's pointless.

The later iirc... I agree it's not going to be that much...

To be fair, I was surprised when I read the reports. It's further than I expected the UEFA to go - a squad limit and a wage cap can actually hurt them quite a bit.

We'll see what happens after appeals, etc... but UEFA has taken the matter seriously, imho.

Yeah me too. I know it's not what FFP looked like it was going to do originally, but that'll have a big impact on their summer transfer dealings.

Doubt it works this way. The fines will not count towards their P/L for next season (in fact, according to UEFA, it's probably applied to this past season.

Can see PSG going all out on a few French players this summer then. Lloris, Pogba and Griezmann are the first few that come to mind, Sirigu, Lavezzi and either Motta or Verratti will probably be sold as well.

The same Lavezzi we were linked with recently?

It's all falling into place!

PSG set for quadruple FFP sanctions

Paris Saint-Germain can expect to be hit by a four-pronged punishment when UEFA hands out its first financial fair play (FFP) sanctions later this week, L'Equipe has claimed.

France's main sports daily reported on Tuesday the French champions have failed to convince European football's governing body their recently signed contract with the Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) is not overvalued.

The deal, which brings the club up to 200 million euros a year, thus allowing them to squeeze inside FFP thresholds, has reportedly been valued at only half that amount by UEFA experts.

Consequently, UEFA and PSG have reached agreement on a moratorium which protects the club from any further, immediate sanctions, but does impose upon their owners, Qatar Sports Investments (QSI) a number of damaging restrictions.

PSG, which boasts Europe's highest wage bill at 240 million euros, will not be allowed to increase the amount it pays in salaries, and they will have to sell players before being able to spend in the coming transfer window.

UEFA will also reportedly ask PSG to limit their transfer activity, allowing them to buy one player at 60 million euros, but forbidding them to break down that sum to buy two players, for example, at 30 million euros or three at 20 million euros.

PSG's Champions League campaign next season will be hit with Les Parisiens permitted to only name a 21-man squad instead of the usual 25. Eight of those players will need to be homegrown, thus restricting coach Laurent Blanc's options.

Furthermore, PSG will have to pay a 60 million euro fine spread over the next three years and reduce their losses to 30 million euros, rather than the 45 million euros stipulated by FFP regulations, by the end of the 2014-15 season.

So that means they are now only allowed to buy 1 player this summer?

No idea. It's a weird ruling for sure. There's only so few players that you could spend 60m on, and that includes some huge wages too.
