Guest michaelfoster
No idea why people would rather start Ranger over Carroll, in the 7 games Ranger has started this season he has looked poor, he is much more effective as a sub imo
TRon
No idea why people would rather start Ranger over Carroll, in the 7 games Ranger has started this season he has looked poor, he is much more effective as a sub imo Ranger provides a proper outlet up front, he links with the midfielders which leads to better football. Carroll, Harewood, Lovenkrands and Shola are all pretty poor in that aspect of their play.

LoveItIfWeBeatU
24/Jan/10 BRAVE STAR SMITH DEFYING MEDICAL ADVICE - Martin Hardy, News of the World ALAN SMITH is defying medical advice and playing in a face mask after seriously damaging his cheekbone. The Newcastle captain should not even be playing after suffering the injury in the FA Cup against Plymouth at the start of the month. The injury is so bad that Smith, 29, has been told by doctors he must not even sniff during a game for fear of aggravating it. "Alan shouldn't even be playing right now," said a source. "He got a smash in the face and there is serious damage to his cheekbone. "He had to go back to hospital and they do not want him to play. They only agreed if he wore a mask. "He is getting treatment on it when he is not playing. "The injury to his cheekbone has affected his eye and he needs to be careful, but Alan doesn't want to sit on the sidelines." Smith has starred in Newcastle's rise to the Championship summit after being given a regular central midfield role this season by Chris Hughton. I'd choose Smith any day.
Ronaldo
They could insist he play with a paper bag on his head and i'd still want him out there ahead of Butt.

huss9
basically with half our first choice defence missing, Hughton has to approach the match with an all-guns-blazing approach. we need to make sure we score enough goals so that the odd defensive lapse is rendered irrelevant. really needs do drum it into our midfielders. ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK!!!!!

Liam Liam Liam O
0-0 If both Taylors & Simpson are missing he should bring in whoever is playing right back for the reserves.
Guest toonlass
0-0 If both Taylors & Simpson are missing he should bring in whoever is playing right back for the reserves. What? Actually use a reserve team player as we have no first team players to play in that space? Ingenious, but it will never catch on here at Newcastle. sh74
Anyone think we should play 4-5-1 for the rest of the season. It seemed to work at the beginning.
Guest Geordiesned
Not a chance. 4-5-1 only works if you actually have midfielders who support the lone front man. We don't.
JH
As long as he doesn't go with Shearer's stupid 3-5-2, we should be fine.

Yorkie
No need for the wink tbh. I'm a shameless Shearer apologist; the man's my undoubted hero. That's not to say i agreed with everything he did on the pitch last year, btw.
JH
Love them random Shearer digs that pop up here and there. What a bizarre post. Not really, Shearer faced the same problem last year and thought that what a poor defence really needed was one less man.

Ronaldo
I actually think if anything we looked slighly more solid in defence under Shearer, at the complete expense of any sort of attacking threat. We only scored in 2 out of 8 games, pretty damn shocking.
