Victor Moses joins Wigan Athletic

The transfer deadline doesn't apply where a club is in administration as it could cause them to go out of business if they can't sell players after the window has closed.

An example of this was us signing Darren Ambrose from Ipswich when they went into temporary administration (I think it was only for 24 hours) but the administrators sold him to us at a knock down £1m in the September after the transfer window had closed.  I recall the Ipswich fans were furious that we "stole " him for just £1m!  I can't see this happening with Moses though, the big boys will come in for him at the last minute, they will just hang back to try and ensure the price isn't too inflated by a bidding war and the administrators will then snap their hands off.

That maybe true,  but he is talking up about wanting 1st team football, and he is not going to get that with any of the big boys.

We signed Ambrose in March 2003 but that's just me being pedantic, I guess the point still stands unless the rules have changed. You didn't get docked 10 points for going into administration back then so it's feasible that some other things have changed.

£2.5-£3m for a player who will almost certainly increase in value, may already be premiership quality and fits the bill in terms of position, type of player, age, wages etc. may not be seen by Fat Mike as that big a gamble.

Because Ashley paid off most of our large debts that would have needed refinancing and reorganised a working capital loan with BArclays and keeps lumping in £20m or so every now and then.  Without him, we most certainly would be like every other club.

Yup, deserves some credit for the debt thing. No excuse for every other mistake he's made mind, but that bit he got right.

He had to pay it off. It's not like he did it out of the kindness of his heart.

It was a smart business decision, no more, no less.

It was essential and in a way kind of lucky. He didn't have to use his bonce, he just had to pay.

It's amazing how some fans just don't seem to realise the position we would have been in had that debt still been around the club.  It's quite fortunate really, in a sick kind of way.

I do realise it. I also realise that he had to pay them off due to clauses written into them about the sale of the club and it wasn't a charitable move on his part. In hindsight it was very fortunate given the current state of the club/football in general but lets not get carried away.

I think you will find we are still in debt big style,  It's just put down as a personal loan by Ashley who is not charging intrest on it. Anybody buys the club of him, either pays that back staight off, or pays it back in installments and you can bet as soon as he is off he will be charging intrest.

You do know why the money had to be repaid, don't you?

Journal have said this morning that Palace rejected our bid :/  But then when the news broke yesterday the comment was that WBA,Forest and us had made "Improved bids" for  the lad, so hope we fuck around haggling on a price,  just get him in before the sharks come and snap him up.

Not us - sources closest to the player, taste of St.James' Park, atmosphere in front of 40000 fans and in back of his mind and his agents mind, Tony Finegan this is a football decision not a money decision, to go to a football club like newcastle that are on the cusp of getting back to PL its a real opportunity  :clap2:
