kirkwdavis2001
If you think it was good to be a Toon fan back then, imagine being part of that group of lads with Keegan as your manager. It would have been awesome!
Ashley17
Yeah but then we threw away a 12 point lead and England lost in the semis of Euro 96 on pens. A tricky 3 months.
Guest firetotheworks
Rob Lee looks 18. All of them look so young like.
Colos Short and Curlies
Bez, Howey and Les are 3/4 of the world's worst boyband. Albert is just a sexual predator
mrmojorisin75
94/95 as there's no Shearer. Les and Gillespie signed summer 95. Shearer in summer 96. Great photo though, an immensely likeable bunch. thought gillespie came in the swap with cole during the season, not in the summer...ginola and ferdinand signed the following summer no? Guest firetotheworks
It's canny crazy how many people think that Shearer was part of the team that nearly won the league. Newcastle fans included.
Guest firetotheworks
Exactly. Gillespie came when Cole left in January '95. Ginola, Barton and Ferdinand came in Summer '95.
TaylorJ_01
Sir Les is god damn handsome.
Interpolic
Exactly. Gillespie came when Cole left in January '95. Ginola, Barton and Ferdinand came in Summer '95. And Hislop (summer 95). How the fuck did we get Ginola for £2.5m?
Colos Short and Curlies
Something to do with being fucked over with Weah and then Ginola being public enemy #1 in France for costing them world cup qualification (according to Houllier)
Ronaldo
Hislop, Barton, Ferdinand and Ginola for around £10m. Crazy.
Kanji
Players today worth 4-5x that in transfer fees with not even 1/2 the skill and ability. We signed a 28-29 year old Les Ferdinand on the back of nearly 3 20+ goal seasons for 6M. Amazing that he then went on to put in 29 and 21 with us the following 2 seasons...but still only got back 6M for him.

Yeah but back in 1995, I can only think of Cole & Collymore who were English and had cost more at that time (maybe missed one or two), and Barton was some sort of record for a full-back. They were big signings back then and not cheap.
David Icke - Son of God
Something to do with being fucked over with Weah and then Ginola being public enemy #1 in France for costing them world cup qualification (according to Houllier) Aye, we had some sort of written agreement that we'd sign Weah and they instead sold him to Milan for more cash. We threatened legal action and the result was a knock down deal for Daveed.
Yorkie
Who's in between Howey/Bez and Gillespie/Barton?
Guest palnese
Darren Peacock?
KDT
Yeah it's Peacock.

Super Duper Branko Strupar
Hislop, Barton, Ferdinand and Ginola for around £10m. Crazy. Barton wasn't cheap at the time, like. Wasn't it a record transfer for a defender?
Guest firetotheworks
None of them were cheap. 6m especially felt like a lot for Ferdinand considering Cole broke the English record when he went for 9m.
WarrenBartonCentrePartin
British record IIRC.
Interpolic
Hislop, Barton, Ferdinand and Ginola for around £10m. Crazy. Was more like £14m for the 4. None of them were cheap. 6m especially felt like a lot for Ferdinand considering Cole broke the English record when he went for 9m. Cole cost £6m plus Gillespie who was valued at £1m, so £7m. Statto, statto.
Guest
Aye, but Keegan's said a few times he valued it at £8.5m because he thought Gillespie was worth £2.5m.
Elliottman
Hislop, Barton, Ferdinand and Ginola for around £10m. Crazy. Barton wasn't cheap at the time, like. Wasn't it a record transfer for a defender? Aye. 4million.
Colos Short and Curlies
They weren't cheap, but we spent good money on highly rated players, not wasted on average plodders. We also had Lee, Peacock, Beresford, Gillespie, Ginola, Beardsley and Albert who were bargains. Certainly weren't just an expensively put together bunch
