Big Geordie
Absolute garbage today and not for the first time since Xmas (and since his goals have dried up) For a player at his age (27/28) who should be at his peak, he has the legs of a man ten years older than he is. So when he hasn't performed for so long, how is he managing to retain his place in the midfield? Same perhaps can be said of Smith, but to a lesser extent. However, both players have absolutely no pace which is why Swansea were able to pass their way through us with ease today. And that's not been the first time thats happened this season either. Nolan offers the midfield (and team) nothing when he's not getting goals and the side suffers as a result. So have the senior players got too much influence with Hughton? And why can't the manager see what is clear as day to 40000+ Newcastle fans?
Dave
He's our top scorer. Agree with you btw.
relámpago blanco
Aye, if he isn't scoring he offers nowt, don't have many other options though, would like to see Smith and Barton tbf.
Pilko
He wants shot after today's performance, up there as one of the worst I've ever witnessed in a Newcastle shirt. An utter disgrace from start to finish.
J7
Defended him for a bit, but he doesnt even look anywhere near as good as earlier in the season. I remember once today him just hoffing it high in the air from the edge of the box, for seemingly no reason.
Mistle17
While he was banging in the goals earlier on this season most of us just bit our tongue and accepted his lack of work (and general ability) due to his compensation of goals. But now his goals have dried up and his lost form, its becoming unbearable to watch him play in the black & white. The amount of times he was caught dallying on the ball today was totally ridiculous- he was out of touch with the rest of the game. Something seriously needs to change. Doctor Zaius
Hasn't got the stamina or work rate to play in the centre of midfield. He's totally inept there, all of his good performances for us have came when he's been playing in the hole behind a lone striker. If Hughton's going to go 4-4-2 away then, unless he goes with a diamond, there is no point in playing Kevin Nolan.
Mistle17
If he's going to play in the 'hole', then he's got to drift between the striker and midfield looking for scraps and chances to link up. But he doesn't, he gets deeper and deeper all game. I'd prefer him to 'play off' Shola or Ranger. It just doesn't seem to work with Carroll, imo. Guest BlacknWhiteArmy
Hughton can't drop him though, same story with Smith. Big figures in the dressing room.
Mistle17
Hughton can't drop him though, same story with Smith. Big figures in the dressing room. Agreed. But we also lack so many options to drop either of them our arms being twisted to extent to play them...
huss9
think if jonas and barton had been fit he would have been dropped
David28
And why can't the manager see what is clear as day to 40000+ Newcastle fans? That's a good question tbh. But wasn't that the case with almost every manager? Sir Bobby played players like Carl Cort or Shola. Roeder played Parker as "Gerrard/Lampard" and played Emre as a holding midfielder. Kinnear never dropped Butt and/or Duff and also played Ameobi in favour of for example Viduka and never gave Xisco a chance. Shearer didn't drop Butt. There's an endless list of mistakes managers have done tbh. Hughton doesn't drop Nolan, yes, ok. But he at least dropped Butt (he is injured at the moment but hasen't played much before either) and he also dropped Owen last season when he was poor. For me it's only a matter of time when he will drop Nolan. Some players mentionend that Nolan is the best "trainer" (best player in training) so that could also be a reason for him to get picked every week. TRon
Hughton can't drop him though, same story with Smith. Big figures in the dressing room. The interesting thing about that is, the senior players who were credited with giving 110% and creating a great team atmosphere are the ones who don't seem to be putting the running in during the recent rut. Smith has lost some of his bite, and as for Nolan, I can clearly recall before he came here he was out of the Bolton side on account of being a fat, unfit waste of space. Whether that was due to coming back from injury I have no idea. Maybe that's still his excuse for looking like a forty year old who's just staggered out the pub a few hours earlier. Mick
I had hoped that somebody was moronic enough to come in for him and Smith during the last transfer window. Both seem to have become over rated by the media, it doesn't look as if that has rubbed off on any managers.
midds
Been absolutely useless for a while now. His goals compensated for his lack of effort/movement/skill earlier in the season but now he's not scoring he's simply not worth his place. Badly needs a rest/transfer. Guest Mantis
Been total garbage since before Christmas, not earned any of his wages since. Been getting more abysmal in recent weeks. If it wasn't for the fact Hughton is incompetant and out o fhis depth he wouldnt be near the first team.

Guest neesy111
if you we're manager, would you be disciplining him for being overweight i'm sure manager's in the past use to do it

Nolan’s a big bloke, could it be slow to standstill is as fast as he’ll ever manage. TBF to Nolan he does his best (most the time) and his passing and movement are actually quite good, he’s probably the most intelligent footballer we have at the club. It’s just unfortunate it all happens in slow motion. That said he looked sharper at the start of the season, perhaps he needs a rest.
