Newcastle are in advanced talks with Alain Traore, and Alan Pardew is confident of signing the Frenchman in January.

Pardew wanted to land Auxerre star Traore in the summer but negotiations stalled and he eventually ran out of time to do the deal.

The Newcastle manager has retained an interest in the midfielder, though, and will push through a deal when the window re-opens on January 1.

Traore, a Burkina Faso international, is desperate to move to the Premier League and Auxerre are willing to grant his wish.

The 22-year-old is now set to move to St James' Park, with Newcastle and Auxerre close to agreeing terms.

Can't say I've heard much of this Traore. Though another midfielder, think we've got decent enough depth in that area.

Newcastle in £2m fight for striker Rhodes

Published 22:30 14/11/11 By Football Spy

Alan Pardew is ready for a £2million scrap with Celtic for Huddersfield striker Jordan Rhodes.

Newcastle boss Pardew will battle the Glasgow giants to sign the Scotland international when the transfer window opens in January.

Rhodes has a £2m escape-clause in his contract at his League One club, and Pardew is prepared to stump up the cash and steal a march on Celtic counterpart Neil Lennon.

Pardew is keen to recruit young talent and has identified Rhodes as a top target.

The 21-year-old has scored 58 goals in under two years, and made his Scotland debut, since joining the Terriers from Ipswich for around £500,000.

The Journal

Meanwhile, United are no further towards making a breakthrough in their hunt for a second striker. A club source has rubbished links with Caen striker Youssef El-Arabi while a move for their priority target Paris Saint Germain’s Mevlut Erdinc has stalled.

Struggling to think of who we could be after in France.

Can't see why we wouldn't be interested in El-Arabi. He was fantastic last season - and would be the perfect partner/alternative to Ba. Very strange if true.

I imagine our French-based target will be someone like Modibo Maiga, Olivier Giroud or Loic Remy (ambitious). As for our Spanish target I'd go for Rondon, maybe someone like Pablo Osvaldo?

:snod:

Olivier Giroud should be brought in, we need someone to rival Cabaye's handsomeness. He needs some competition in that area.

He's still not as dreamy as Cabaye. What's happened to MimiFrench by the way? Would be good to get her opinion on Giroud and Traore (despite the terrible sources).

Giroud would be an excellent signing, don't know much about Traore but he would surely be cover for Tiote.

'Midfielder? Yes. Black? Yes. Why, he'll be cover for Tiote, of course!'.

Reliably told that Olivier Giroud, Jordan Rhodes and Alain Traore aren't January targets for #nufc.

By who?!

Starforth covers NUFC for the Shields Gazette, that comment was on his twitter. So if you want an answer you know where to go.

He's quite reliable too. Trust him more than Ryder anyway.
