Little article on Gervinho. They reckon that if he leaves Lille it'll be for a Champions League club, ruling out us, Everton & Aston Villa, and that Arsenal & Man City might be keen. Fee would be around €10m.

Supposing we could convince him, I reckon that sort of fee and wages he'd be after would be bang in the Ashley budget and sort of fee he wants to spend to replace Carroll.

Alan Pardew has claimed Newcastle are targeting Gascoigne-esque players to improve their squad for next season.

Speaking to the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, the Magpies boss claimed the club didn’t have a big enough squad to compete properly in either of the domestic cup competitions this term.

As preparations for the summer transfer window continue Pardew admitted that he is looking to bring some stardust to St James’ Park.

He said: “Next year the most important thing is that we improve.

“The period that I’ve been here has been fantastic with the size of our squad we’ve had.

“We need some offensive players. One or two players that Newcastle have always had, gets bums of seats players, that little moment that lifts you.

“Players like Beardsley, Gascoigne and Waddle but they’re expensive and difficult to purchase.

“We’re competing with Champions League clubs to get those sorts of players.

“Hopefully we can get one or two of those in and keep the basis of the squad we’ve got here who have been brilliant.

“Securing the good players we’ve got here isn’t easy either, we need a squad big enough to attack one of the cups.

“This year though we didn’t have a squad big enough, in the modern game you must have 20-22 quality players.”

Here's a tip: don't sell them in the first place.

of course, given the mentality of our board what comes after the bit you've highlighted is 'and once they prove they're worth it you have to pay them properly. so we sell them and start all over again'

Hmmm I'm quite offended that Smith and Perch exist, I'm not sure we need more....

I'm a little worried about the Fact we havnt been linked with many out and out centre forwards

Gervinho/nzog are both forward players but they need a fulcrum. A shearer/Carroll type player is ideal

Is Sow/Gameiro this type of player?

Erdinc linked to us again. He says he is flattered. Apparently we bid 4 or 5 million last season. I could see us going in again, he could be our number 9. He had a poor season and PSG could use the cash to get gameiro.

Have you got the link?

If the striker, say Gameiro, was talented enough and still a goal threat - i'd take a punt on not having a 'physical' striker. A team pumped with pace, flair and movement (so long as everyone was firing on all cylinders) would be a refreshing change. We've got bits and pieces of it fluttering around, mainly down the left side... add Zog, HBA and [Gameiro] to that and we've got some rather delightful carpet football. :smug:

Entirely hypothetical like, but all i'm saying is - i wouldn't say a target man is an absolute necessity.

We were def in for Erdinc last summer, he is possibly available now. Would prefer him to Sow, we should avoid players with ACN commitments.

They call him Erdinc in Turkey and Erding in France, I think. He's French but plays for Turkey.
