Chris_R
Such a classy bloke and one of the nicest guys in football. Maybe, but he was a s*** manager. Certainly at this stage of his life anyway, but maybe he can learn from the experience and do better elsewhere but if he stayed at West Ham they'd have had another relegation fight on their hands next year. Ketsbaia
GIANFRANCO ZOLA AXED AND WEST HAM WON'T PAY HIM £3.5M COMPENSATION SHOCKED Gianfranco Zola was left fuming last night after being sacked for breach of contract by West Ham’s controversial owners. Zola was axed at a meeting with vice-chairman Karren Brady at the Boleyn Ground yesterday which lasted mere minutes. And Starsport understands the Hammers, who just avoided relegation this season, intend to pay him NONE of the £3.5m compensation he believes he is owed. Co-owners David Sullivan and David Gold are claiming Zola breached his contract with what they insist was a public attack on the board. They are unhappy with comments he made after it was announced his whole squad, except Scott Parker, was for sale. Zola said at the time: “If I was Mark Noble or Robert Green or Valon Behrami, I wouldn’t be very pleased to hear that. It is not pleasant.” It is a staggering turn of events considering Sullivan has spent the last few weeks criticising Zola and his team in public. The Hammers chairman apologised to supporters for a “shambolic” and “pathetic” performance against Wolves in March. And he described the performance of Zola and his side this season as “below expectations” before Sunday’s draw with Manchester City. The Italian will now take his battle for compensation all the way to the courts in what promises to become a massive legal row. Zola said last night: “I am extremely disappointed to be leaving West Ham United. Over recent weeks, I have been the subject of various adverse comments from within the club, which have been widely reported in the media. “Despite what has been a very difficult period for me, I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at West Ham. “I would like to sincerely thank the players and my staff for their continued support, hard work and commitment. “The termination process of my contract is now in the hands of the League Managers’ Association.” The Hammers released a statement yesterday, saying: “West Ham United confirm that they have terminated the contract of Gianfranco Zola. “The Board of Directors would like to thank him for his contribution and wish him well for the future. “The club will now be focusing its efforts on seeking a replacement.” West Ham are now searching for their sixth manager in seven years, with an appointment expected within three weeks. Sullivan said: “We will study people’s past records to find a manager with a proven track record.” Avram Grant, Mark Hughes and Slaven Bilic are all contenders for the job. But so far the response has been lukewarm. Zola’s No.2 Steve Clarke has been asked to stay on as assistant to the new man, who has been promised funds for up to six new signings. http://www.dailystar.co.uk/football/view/134877/Gianfranco-Zola-axed-and-West-Ham-won-t-pay-him-3-5m-compensation/ Absolute madness. Embarassing too.

Embarassing too. fucking hell they're trying to pull zola breached his contract by "attacking the board" despite the fact they were undermining him at every turn. since when is not agreeing with the boards idea about selling every one of the managers players breaching a contract? those two reach new lows every week

Guest Heneage
I had a chat with him once. Being a raving geek I wanted a childhood World Cup 94 card autographed, and I told him in Italian I thought he was Calgiari's best signing of recent times, incredibly sycophantic but true imo. He smiled stopped and had a good 5-10 minute chat with me about Serie A, and Juventus while his teams coach was unloaded. It was just awe inspiring, a man with such talent, who'd done so much, was happy to talk to a random stranger.
Village Idiot
I admired him immensely as a player, I hope he gets a decent profile job and can rebuild his career. Spanish press is linking Gregorio Manzano for the Wham job.
