ARSENAL, Tottenham and a host of other top clubs have been put on red alert after it emerged Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel is considering his Anfield future.

And one of the first tasks awaiting the Merseyside club’s new manager will be to tackle the Skrtel issue.

LIVERPOOL’S failure to land striker Nikica Jelavic in last January’s transfer window is being seen as an early sign that the club’s American owners were losing faith in former boss Kenny Dalglish.

It’s understood that Croatian striker Jelavic was a Dalglish target but city rivals Everton sealed a £5million deal under Liverpool’s noses on the last day of the transfer window.

A Merseyside source told the DAILY STAR SUNDAY: “Dalglish had spent more than £100million at Liverpool with mixed success.

“And the feeling now is that the owners were not prepared to give him any more money – even though Jelavic only cost us around £5million.

'Mixed'? That's a fucking understatement.

What an absolute shambles they are.

Honestly, someone should tell the owners that the best procedure towards getting a decent manager in is not to sack all the upper echelons of the club, plus the current incumbent, in the same week, then say you're going to interview a dozen or so people for it.

I thought our American owners were fucking hopeless at hiring managers, but really, they're utter genius compared to these FSG bozos.

depends on whether a manager sees it as a lost cause or not, having a look through their current squad i'd say they have as top class players:

Agger (injury prone)

Enrique (needs to find form)

Suarez (cunt)

Gerrard (old / injuries)

Reina

Škrtel

the rest of their squad is pretty fucking mediocre or poor

carroll

henderson

adam

shelvey

spearing

of this group some may or may not make it but it's unlikely that any of them will set the world on fire based on current evidence

guess then there's some kids and random foreigners who might step up

whatever way you look at it, even with another 100m to spend, that's a pretty sizeable task

Ian Dennis

@Iandennisbbc

Frank De Boer told me on Sat it would be a "bad example" if he left Ajax for Liverpool. "Already made a promise to them".

Going with their current squad, if you were Liverpool manager what team would you play? I was thinking they would have a half decent team if they had a re-shuffle. However, no world class manager will play Suarez as an out and out centre forward because he doesn't offer enough hold up play or aerial threat. Even alongside someone like Carroll he's proven to be only semi-affective, despite some serious talent.

I think a new manager will be looking at something like this:

                            Reina

Johnson      Skrtel        Agger        Enrique

                  Lucas          Adam

Bellamy              Gerrard              Suarez

                          Carroll

However, without signings even this side is woefully short. Far too many if's and buts.

Will Gerrard recapture some form?

Will Suarez started producing regularly?

Will Carroll and Adam step up to the plate?

Could Bellamy play a full season?

Will Skrtel stay?

Some big problems for a new manager, should they find one.
