djmattis
So annoying that Liverpool got Klopp, a likeable manager that goes to one of the worst teams ever existed, urgh.

TaylorJ_01
Tis a strange argument to make. The media are constantly labelled cunts on here.
DJ_NUFC
I don't think the argument here was that gegenpressing doesn't exist, it was that it's indistinguishable from what is widely known as 'counter-pressing' or, colloquially, just 'pressing.' Oh gosh, what have I done.
Hughesy
Warning - this is a hugely long read, but quite a good one - http://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2015/oct/22/manchester-united-liverpool-class-of-92-spice-boys-eric-cantona Quite a few interesting points in it, but certainly made me think about the Liverpool team of the mid-90s and, in particular, Robbie Fowler. I always thought he seemed to enjoy a reputation that exceeded his actual ability and achievements, but if you look at his career stats, his career was pretty much on a downward slide after 6 seasons. I've never seen this Google Trends business, pretty awesome tool. I'm pretty sure gegenpressing is more specialized and related to footie, whereas 'counter pressing' is far more general (and they're two words), so I have no idea if you can compare the two as if we're comparing apples to apples using this tool. But hey, as I said, nobody was disputing the existence of the word. I personally have just heard 'football experts' and commentators use 'pressing,' or 'tactical pressing' or 'counter-pressing' way more on telly and in print than gegenpressing, but that could just be anecdotal. Are you serious? You're suggesting that a search term for something over another means it's the 'most common expression'? It's pretty obvious that people are more likely to search for the thing that they haven't heard of over the thing that they have and already understand. It's wanky, football hipster nonsense and I would predict that people are searching for it because they're hearing self-aggrandising, pseudo-intellectual gimps slipping it into conversation as if everyone knows the term, then they're searching for it and either 1. Going 'Eh, that's just counter-pressing' or 2. Deciding to become self-aggrandising pseudo-intellectual gimps themselves.

Mole_Toonfan
I'm not against the term per say as like with false 9 and the likes it's not anything new, it's the constant shoving down the throat of it that irks me.
Interpolic
Anyone else who slips it into football conversation is also a monumental bellend then.

And the fact that it's not even a thing. False 9 is a very particular thing that had no previous title for it, gegenpressing is counter-pressing, there's absolutely no difference whatsoever and anyone who says that there is in practice is just plain lying. The College Dropout
KI - in denial about the facts. If counter pressing was a common phrase, Google wouldn't lie https://www.google.co.uk/trends/explore#q=gegenpressing%2C%20%22counter%20pressing%22%2C%20%22counter%20attack%22%2C%20tiki%20taka&cmpt=q&tz=Etc%2FGMT-1 Here's another. Counter attacking has slowly been used more over the last 8 years. The Tiki Taka lines up pretty perfectly with people's understanding of the phrase. The point stands, people generally search for things that they don't know about. Tika Taka's a real thing that people didn't know about. Gegenpressing is something that people don't know about because it's a made up, wanky name for counter-pressing.
