Nobody
I'm still amazed that he a) seemed to be desperate to join us and b) that we actually got him the end. Ben Arfa is streets ahead of what we've got, and tbf, he's streets ahead of what most teams got.
merlin
Probs the best full-debut goal i've ever seen for us. Really struggling to think of another. Big Dunc got a couple on his debut but i think they were both just good headers. It's daft when you think about it, but it's something i've said for the last year or so now. Carroll and Nolan are so-so (the former having improved), but we've lacked someone in the squad who will knock the ball out of their feet and f***ing lash it. Someone who'll actually kick the ball as hard as they can. Obviously, that was the far end of the 'lashing it' spectrum but f***. Martins had a couple of belters but that goal just reminded me of Robert in every sense. Jink, bob, touch, bang. f***ing brilliant goal, so pleased. Wasn't his debut(that was last week), but good as it was, it wasn't as good as Supermac's second in his home league debut against Liverpool in 71...was from a tighter angle and struck across Ray Clemence with enormous power into the roof of the net. Both goals probably as important in establishing each player as a folk hero.

DJ_NUFC
I wanna cry. That's how good he is. That's how good that goal felt. Had two shots of cinnamon whiskey when that ball zipped past a spreadeagled Howard as I watched a repeat of the game late night here in Canada. Shades of Ginola & Robert, I hope the kid keeps it up and joins us full-time. I'd hate to see him go elsewhere, but as long as he keeps us up this year, I'll be happy with that too. Guest Ridzuan
A fantastic goal and a fantastic performance to round the day off. He seemed to have sustained some kind of injury when he was substituted, hopefully theres nothing serious. Im not sure whether a loan deal is ideally suited for us, we should have sign him on a permanent basis. I dont know what had transpired though. Anyway, hopefully he will score more goals for us and sign for us permanently come the end of the season.
Cronky
Rewound his goal and watched it about 7 times, ridiculous bit of technique, loved how it was all in one motion, the drop of the shoulder then hit immediately. Oozed class. I'd noticed from video clips that he's good at keeping the ball low when he shoots. The trajectory that he got on the ball was unreal. In fact, despite the pace on the ball, I think it was actually travelling downwards when it hit the net. And for a player whose fitness and attitude were suspect, there didn't seem to be a problem with either. He seems determined to make this a completely fresh start to his career. David28
Hopefully he won't get injured (long term) before he gets his 25th game for us. If so, Hughton should get him on the pitch in injury time on crutches.
henke
Superb goal. I didn't see it until match of the day and it was even better than i'd expected. I honestly can't think of too many players in england capable of scoring that goal. The close control and the shear audacity of it was sublime. And the power he generated was robert-esque. It's difficult not to get carried away about this kid.

nobby_solano
It's nice to have a player who can create something out of nothing like he did yesterday, been a long time since we've been able to say that
DJ_NUFC
I don't know, Fabrice Pancrate had a similar first 2 games and honestly, a lot of these comments mirror those made during that time.
Nobody
I remember seeing him for Lyon a few years ago, can't remember if it was in the CL or a league game, but it was one of those games where you noticed a young player who was absolutely terrific and you say to yourself "that lad will be immense in a couple of years". I just cannot believe that he is now playing for us.

Guest BooBoo
The ball was glued to his foot at times, Goodison was privileged to see such a cavalier grace their turf.

How did that Pancrate song go? "Scored a wonder goal his second game, he's done nowt else, it's such a shame" or something.

jimmymag
Ben Arfa will never again be given the time on the ball he had before yesterday's strike. He'll be a marked man from now on, but I know he's got the ability to cope with that when he's settled and fit.

He'll be a marked man from now on, but I know he's got the ability to cope with that when he's settled and fit. He has enough skill to create time on the ball and make himself space to operate BUT I said yesterday in the match thread that he would be even better in the middle where Nolan players where he has more room to move instead of being stuck down the wing. If we manage to sign him permanently I can see him developing into a top player for us where he'll be given a free role to create havoc wherever he feels like it. He's got so much raw talent it's frightening!
