GM
Drogba tips Tiote to become Magpies legend Nov 29 2010 by Lee Ryder, Evening Chronicle CHELSEA star Didier Drogba today told the Toon Army: “You have one hell of a player on your hands in Cheik Tiote.” And in an exclusive interview with the Chronicle, Drogba has tipped Newcastle United’s midfield dynamo to go on and be a Premier League legend. The words of the Ivory Coast World Cup ace – who drew a blank in the 1-1 draw at Gallowgate – are praise indeed for the 24-year-old, with the usually evasive Drogba not someone who would normally bask in the media limelight. But Drogba made his feelings clear before leaving Tyneside and said: “Cheik is a very good player, he played very well against us at St James’ Park and did well for his team. “For the Ivory Coast he is a very important player for us as people saw in the World Cup for our national team. “I think Newcastle United supporters have only seen half of his potential so far. “You have only seen half the player. “I say that because the more he plays in the Premier League at first-team level the better he will become.” Tiote was desperate to face his idol Michael Essien yesterday, but the Stamford Bridge man was suspended. The ex-FC Twente player picked up man of the match honours again on his own return from the sin bin. Now Drogba, who has won 10 medals since arriving on the Premier League scene six years ago, thinks there were will be much more to come. He said: “I think he is going to go on and be one of the strongest players in this league. “I have to say that physically he is a bit stronger than me. “And that means he will a lot better for it. “Newcastle well and truly have a star player on their hands and the fans should be pleased.” Drogba was satisfied with a point for the champions at St James’, but Newcastle fans were sweating when he rattled the ball past Tim Krul late on. Drogba explained why it had not stood, he said: “The goal was a handball. “I wasn’t fouled but the reason I was disappointed was because two minutes before there was an action when I tried to cross and the defender touched it with his hand. “But he didn’t give it, so that’s why I disappointed. “We created a lot of chances. “The problem was Newcastle scored so early in the game. “Then we had to chase and it means you leave more space and you create more fatigue. “That then makes it difficult to create the opportunities you do get.” Read More http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/newcastle-united/nufc-news/2010/11/29/drogba-tips-tiote-to-become-magpies-legend-72703-27735631/?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter#ixzz16fakcaYo Eh? Sifu
It's rather sad to see that he's not the force that he used to be. The signs are still there mind so I'm still going to put my trust into him. All he has to do is to get back to basics and stop trying to do complicated stuff. He has to remember that his job is to protect the defence and to find the simple pass to our attackers, he's been dawdling on the ball a bit too much for my liking this season. Ishmael
Amazed at the scale of my fury towards this man. It is justified, but the vitriol I spewed was overboard. Sort yourself out, Tiote.
MyPalAl
He has been way below par, but then again so have many others, including Krul, Colo and Cabaye (when he was fit obviously). They are big players for us when on form. When all of them are off the boil, every little thing is over-emphasised. When he is at the top of his game, he is excellent. But how often have we seen that?
pi_D
He struggles with the added attacking responsibility when Cabaye is out.

Tooj
Dunno why Bigirimana went off and not him. Believe it or not Tiote actually is a better player and has more to his defensive game than wor Bigi does at the moment.
ujpest doza
Keegan and Burley thought he had 'a great game' up until arsenals 3rd. Wtf? He was great until that moment, no point questioning that. I thought he was poor.
TRon
I thought he was good until around 65 minutes. He was good in some parts of his game but he did give the ball away in daft areas. We've got enough players in his area of the pitch to leave him out for the odd game just to keep him on his toes. He does seem to have got sloppy this season. Dave
http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/newcastle-set-up-debuchy-deal-after-long-wait-8433649.html Pardew put midfielder James Perch in as Coloccini's partner and he said: "It hasn't been often that we went into a game with James at centre-half. He's been doing terrific for us in midfield and we missed him a little bit in there, just to shore the game up. So what you gain from him stepping in at centre-half, we missed in midfield." Mole_Toonfan
He has been this season tbh. I often feel the whole idea of physicality and specialist midfielders like destroyers are often overstated..... In this day and age i would much prefer a midfield 3 of Bigi-Cabaye-Anita..... they can all press, intercept, tackle, pass, score, create etc etc they can all do multiple different jobs and swap roles on the fly and comfortable in each zone i.e. DM, CM and AM. Most top teams have midfielders like this who complete multiple roles and not just one and not many use specialist CM's or specialist DM's anymore. It's a type of player that is slowly but surely dieing and quite frankly against Arsenal having a destroyer didn't exactly help us and hasn't done all season. Even last season i felt our best performances were with Guthrie and Cabaye.
