Cheick Tioté (1986-2017)

If he doesn't get injured than we'll stay up. He's just so effective defensively it's ridiculous how much space he covers.

Not the best defensive midfielder in the League but surely has the potential to become one of the best. Remember that he is still adapting to the League. Only thing he's also a dirty cunt sometimes. especially that tackle on Elano at the world cup.

Btw

He knackered Nolan in the warm up. Put him on his arse for 2/3 minutes

Skills. Even he can see it.

He kicked the ball in his bollocks!

Brilliant player so far, not just defensively brilliant but the speed and accuracy he then releases the ball is outstanding at times.

Yep, he's got the lot. Close control is very good aswell.

He really is a hell of a find if he keeps on playing the way he has been. I'm really enjoying seeing us being sensible in the transfer market and buying players for good prices and getting good value out of them fora change.  I mean, even though some of the players Huhgton has bought might not be up to it at this level, he certainly got what was required out of the likes of Routledge last season when it mattered and we would easily get our money back.

Really impressed with him yesterday. Keeps things ticking over nicely in midfield and keeps the ball moving. He seems to have a great engine and gets around the pitch well. He doesn't seem to just sit and want to hold hands with Colo/Williamson like Smith does.

Im not sure if its just because Im used to watching Smith but he very rarely seems to go to ground when tackling, anyone else noticed this?

The thing I love about him the most is that with his first touch he'll often eliminate one or two players being able to tackle him by cutting in front of them, I love it.

The boy looks a bit special!! To my mind not only is he an ideal physical specimen for a midfielder, but he is also a thinker. Someone who understands what midfield play is all about, and doesn't just get out there and do as he is told. Smith on the other hand....

Bit special indeed. Keep it up lad

Tiote is the best m/f player at the club - he is the main reason we are getting lots of play between defence and the opposition pen area...that is where it all goes wrong.

None of this is his fault - he is there to win the ball and set up the forward movement ; his compatriots, Barton and Nolan are the reason it all falls down, as well as poor movement and lack of support up front.

Agreed. I'd go as far as to say so far he looks like the best DM the club has ever had. As good as Batty and a better passer with more composure.

Careful. It'd take some effort to better Batty.

How we could have done with him in the relegation season. He would have kept us up, and may just do this year.

He needs to be an ever present when fit and certainly not left out or taken off when Nolan is on. (Blackpool & Stoke 6 points thrown away)

The thing is even the commentator on Swedish television was so impressed with him he kept mentioning his name in halftime.

Tiote is a beast, and without him we could've lost 3,4-0.

He won't win us matches singlehandedly but he does make the defence look more comfortable as their someone who they can trust infront of them, not like Smith.

We've been crying out for a player like him for years. Class act at what he does. Thought there were a couple of incidents yesterday where he took a few too many risks, but only a couple and his physical presence got him out of it.

If we could replace Nolan with someone who can actually move around the pitch we would have a decent midfield.

Early days but he looks the real deal, turns defence into attack by winning the ball and picking the right pass quickly. Looks composed on the ball and energetic off it. He's basically everything Nicky Butt wasn't.
