Steven Taylor (now retired)

Recommended Posts

Think there's a massive overreaction to his display like. Any defender in the World would have looked good up against West Brom yesterday

Yep, this place really is a joke at times. We win one game 1-0 against a crap side that completely fails to turn up and the general perception of a player who's been in the first team for 12 years changes fairly significantly. He's the most injury prone player I've ever seen at NUFC in addition to having numerous glaring deficiencies as a defender.

Don't think anyone's saying he's going to be some sort of saviour from now until the end of the season, we all know the script; he'll play another 2 or 3 games then get injured and that's another season over for him.

However credit where credit's due. He played very well yesterday albeit against a poor team and to suggest otherwise because of his previous failings is just silly.

How is this place a joke for people merely saying that he had a good game, which he did even if it is against shitty opposition, I highly doubt it changed peoples overall opinion on him, but please let your massive bias keep you from looking at things objectively.

Bit thick you, aren't you? I think you should combine a quick look through the last couple of pages of the thread with a trip to Google and the word 'bias'. Plenty of posts go further than praising his performance yesterday.

There's no mileage in the lad, never has been. Only a matter of time before him and his brain of mush let us down or the next muscle/tendon/ligament explodes while he's jogging around the field pointing at the corner flag with his chest out.

I did that before I posted, there are maybe a few people who "Went further then praising him", but the majority of people only said he had a good game, but because you're macho man brain can't compute something that is different to your opinion, even if slightly minuscule, you have to go and call the entire forum a joke.

We've kept four clean sheets all season in the league. Steven Taylor has only started two games. Those were two of the four. OK, so it was Man U and WBA, neither of whom are known for being prolific this season, but with other combinations (principally Colo and Mbemba) we've only kept two from 23. For comparison that group of fixtures includes Villa and Norwich at home.

At the start of 2011-12 we conceded something like 12 goals in the first 13 games with Colo and Taylor together before the 0-3 Chelsea game when he first snapped his achilies.

The stats suggest he's better than he's sometimes given credit for - he's just injured too often.

Not sure how you can use stats from a run of games from almost 5 years ago to advocate his ability now, like. He's noticeably slower since then and clearly hasn't really learnt a thing in that time either. More recently performances against Liverpool (0-6) spring to mind.

I do think the stick he gets regarding his ability is a bit ott, there is/was a good defender in there somewhere but he's made of glass and thick as pig shite. Shame really.

Three years ago is hardly recent, and he wasn't the only one to have a shitter that day.

He can't be relied up on because he is a walking injury, he is also thick as fuck but if he stays fit he is a solid enough central defender for where we are right now. The problem is that isn't going to happen.

I wasn't....you might have missed the point there, or maybe I didn't explain it well enough. I was pointing out that Colo and Taylor have form as a pair. I haven't done the stats going back five years but I'd bet our goals against is far lower when Colo and Taylor are paired, than that of any other pair over the same period. Granted they aren't up against much (Williamson) and I'm not having a dig at Mbemba - I like him and I think he'll be a decent player for us. I'm just pointing out that Taylor and Colo have historically (and the few times they have been paired this season) looked more solid as a pairing.

Classic Saylor.

After convincing McClaren to let him undergo rehabilitation from hamstring surgery beneath the restorative heat of the Doha sun, Taylor is similarly hungry. “I’ve been dying to get back out there for ages so I’m absolutely loving it,” he said. “I feel a million dollars. I’ve come back from Qatar fitter and stronger.

“ When you’re not playing you’re always going to be written off but I like proving people wrong. It’s nice for a lot of people to eat their words. I play with my heart and soul but we need characters. When you play for Newcastle you need a bit of fruit and veg down there, you’ve got to hold your own.

“I threw myself at everything and, yeah, wound West Brom up a bit. Our team’s been a little quiet in the last few months so I livened things up. It seemed to work on a few of their players – they were moaning and it put them off their game.”

:serious:

Those quotes look like they've been taken from a Twitter parody account or something. I noticed him do a strange little twirl after heading it to one of our players yesterday, he's absolutely missing a fair bit up top.

Good game though.

He really is a thick twat.

However, if fit I think he will be useful in the run in.
