Anichebe is shaping up nicely with 21 in 147, he was the first that sprung to mind. Not sure there's anyone on Shola's level.

I had no idea that Anichebe was that bad like.

Shola Ameobi's goal was the 78th of his SJP career and the 42nd in the Premier League - the 41st arriving way back in December 2012 against QPR at the Leazes end.

This latest goal moved him up to fourth in the club's all-time Premier League goalscorers list:

1. Alan Shearer 148

2. Peter Beardsley 46

3. Andy Cole 43

4. Shola Ameobi 42

5. Les Ferdinand 41

Laughable, that.

42 in ~290 games.

4 less than Beardsley, a second striker then midfielder who got 46 in ~130 games

1 less than Cole who got 42 in 58 games

1 more than Ferdinand who got 41 in 68 games

As a professional he's a joke, but the jokes on us and he's the only one laughing.

Clearly not a good record... but how many of those are sub appearances?  That must skew the stats a fair bit.

EDIT - just seen this has been answered..

Can't believe the stick this club legend gets on here.  Last game he scored more goals than the rest of the team put together.  If we had 11 Shola's we would have (theoretically) won comfortably 11-2.  Clearly deserves more game time and a new 5 year contract.

“There's a lot going on at the moment, and things are pretty tense. We have to make sure we don't let this season fizzle out"

Fizzle out?  We've lost 12 of the last 17 (?), scored 3 goals at home this year and are competing with Stoke and Crystal Palace for 9th or 10th place.  It's dead already.

I think it's dead certain he will get a new one year deal. No way will we be able to bring in suffcient replacements for Remy and De Jong.

There's no reason why we wouldn't be able. We stand to post a bumper profit, taking our cumulative profit for the past 4 years close to 100m. We won't however, by choice, which is entirely different.
