He's halfway between totally useless and totally useful.  Depending on what the rest of the team is doing.

:dowiespin:

That doesn't make much sense, does it?  I'll fix it.

if he had any pace he would have put away that chance near the end where coleman tackled him.

What? :dowiespin:

It seems some people woukd rather he didn't do well because it contradicts their agenda

Can only assume that's before he saw it wasn't actually a good tackle, tbf.

Regardless, it wouldn't have got to the challenge if he hadn't 'done a Nolan' and taken an absolute age to get ready to shoot - if it was Carroll, he'd probably have hit straight away.

Perhaps it could be that he's quite an influential player (mind you don't say that on here though) and the performance of the team depends on him somewhat?

Not sure how that contradicts what everyone has already said about him.

Seriously Jonny, he was waiting for Howard to commit before he tried to lift it over him - it's called composure, not 'doing a Nolan'

It's implied/commented on here that Nolan's perfomance depends on the reast of the team i.e. he's usually carried by the perfomance of the other players, whereas it's increasingly looking as though he has a much greater influence on the match.

This isn't the Championship - there's no way he's ever going to get that much time on the ball in the Premiership.

He got twatted by a reckless challenge as he was pulling the trigger, how on earth are you trying to find Nolan accountable for that? Er, sorry you got raped love, but er, you were wearing a skirt.

If only Carroll had hit that chance straight away last week instead of fannying on and trying to go round the 'keeper.

fuck off man, what a stupid comparison.

Of course it was a penalty and it was a stupid challenge, but he should have expected something (a good defender for example would have nicked the ball off him). He should have hit the trigger earlier, I can't see how the reckless challenge has any relevance.

Like when Ben Arfa played Carroll through but he ended up getting tackled as he took 20 minutes deciding on what to do?

How anyone can criticise Nolan after being scythed down from behind just as he was about to score it is totally and utterly beyond me.

Who's criticising him for getting challenged? I'm simply saying he should have shot earlier.

The only reason Nolan looked (and played) good yesterday is because the players around him are mobile. Ben Arfa, Tiote, Routledge and Barton were all constantly moving on and off the ball and this allowed Nolan to float into good positions and make short passes because the players around him had made their runs. The key wasn't really his place being challenged, it was the fact that Smith (the immovable object) had been replaced by a mobile player.

If Nolan had pace and movement he'd be a quality player. I don't care how much flak I get because he's got a decent touch, can read the game and is a good finisher.

Jesus wept...

What about when Arfa played Carroll in then but he was beaten to the ball by the defender when he probably shouldn't have been? Did he "do a Carroll"?

Pretty much garentee that if it was Nolan in the same posision we would have about 5 extra pages to this thread moaning on about how ugly, fat and imobile he is.

Don't start that, we will have all the "Nolan makes the subs, picks the team, takes training, signed Ben Arfa" bollocks again
