ponsaelius
Just read this on Toontastic and never actually thought about it before now. The only strikers we've bought since Ashley took over the club are Leon Best and Xisco. Wow. Edit: Smith was originally bought as a striker. Even funnier. The only strikers we've bought since Ashley took over the club are Leon Best and Xisco. Not so surprising if you think about it. Strikers are the most expensive commodities in the game because finding one who can deliver at the top level is beyond a lot of managers. Wenger's teams look crap when Van Persie is injured for example.

ponsaelius
Actually, come to think of it he played in midfield on that Bolton game which would have been his debut. I still have vivid memories of him floundering about upfront though.

JH
In his debut (in a friendly), he was upfront with Viduka. He also scored

Anderson
Did he not play upfront for England in the only cap he received while here? Possibly with Owen?
ponsaelius
Meh, this is almost certainly my memory decieving me.

Nobody
The very thought of Smith upfront now makes me want to howl with laughter and weep at the same time. If he has to play on Sunday, I'd rather play him up front than in midfield. Keep him as far away from our goal as possible.
Anderson
He'd probably do as good a job as Lovenkrands tbh.

I actually want to see him upfront against Chelsea purely for comedic reasons, Terry and Luiz will quake in their boots

Yorkie
Had a spell upfront with Owen when Keegan first arrived. Was painful viewing.
The Prophet
Neil/1878, how would a bid for Billy go down? The lad clearly has talent but doesn't seem to be in Moye's first team thoughts.
