Graham Carr

One of the reasons we don't have a competent left back or two good enough centre backs, only one winger, no competent central midfielders and four relatively talented players that all want to play in a number 10 type position.

Most unbalanced squad in the league, because of a flawed recruitment strategy. If Carr has as much say as we are lead to believe he is largely responsible for this but it all comes down to the person who over promoted the chief scout, just like the MD is the over promoted reserve team secretary. The club is rotten and always will be while it is owned by Mike Ashley.

Wijnaldum, Mitrovic and Mbemba are good players. Anyone with half decent knowledge of football can see that.

Ok Thauvin has been a complete dud so far. Colback is s*** but he was a free transfer.

Just because the team is playing s*** every week doesn't mean the signings were s***.

He's not going to get them all right.

I'd like people to break down the ones they think are bad signings.

"Good player" isn't a function that contributes to team success. You need tangibles.

We needed a goalscorer this season. Mitrovic is not that player. We still struggle fro goals.

We  needed a CM that can put his foot in the ball. Wijnaldum - is not that player but his goals have been key for the little points we have for sure. We still struggle to for quality at CM.

Thauvin - dud.

We needed a defender to dominate attackers of the opposition physically and in the air. Mbemba, talented lad but isn't that player. We still struggle with physical strikers - especially in the air.

Darlwo and the other lad aren't ready for first team PL football yet.

SDJ can't get in the tea,.

Perez is a talent. But he doesn't score enough goals. If he doesn't beat goalkeepers with a quick shot, he rarely scores. He's better playing fully up top than #10 imo.

Jack Colback.

^^^^ does not make for a good team

We didn't need Mbemba? That's utter bollocks. We needed him AND the dominant, physical defender you mention. Unless you were happy going into the season with Colo in the side...

If where to only sign 1 CB - he needed to be the physical defender. Signing 2 first team CB's was always unlikely so we needed to prioritise.

I'm sure when Mbemba signed, Coloccini was thought to be on his way. Your mate was one who openly courted him.

And he's restricted to looking for mercenaries we can potentially sell on for a profit. He's the least of our worries.

We can always find an excuse for him and he's not the least of our worries, he's one of the top 4 along with Ashley, Charnley and McClaren.

You don't need Prince2 to know that sounds like horrible project planning.

I agree. Don't know why Carr only seems to spot sweeper type centre halfs.

Signed more good than bad imo.

Absolute fucking horseshit. Apart from Cabaye he's signed cheap useless unproven and unable to play in this league fuckwits

Perez is useless?

He had nowt to do with Perez, it was that weird looking Barry Manalow/ Rod Stewart tribute act thing.

Finds and signs one of the most promising talents we've seen at the club for years.  Gets dogs abuse.

Ah [emoji38]

Anyway point stands, if Carr has 'final say' as people like to trot out for the poor signings then he'll have had final say on bringing Perez in as well.

He's just a f***ing scout. He gets told to go and find cheap s**** and does so.

He spent £50 million in the summer.

And he's restricted to looking for mercenaries we can potentially sell on for a profit. He's the least of our worries.

he is the main problem. Any manger would struggle with this squad, he has  had plenty of time to get a half decent balanced squad. instead we have a squad packed with players not good enough or always injured. He needs to take his share of the blame for this

he takes a share of the blame, sure, but then given what you know about the way ashley runs the club what on earth makes you think it's anything other than seeking bargains and potential sell on value that dictates which of the targets we go for?  we've been linked with plenty of players over the last 4-5 years that could be top class but we'd never ever pay the money to get them

He does need to take his share of the blame for our failure, especially since he was apparently the one pushing hard for his mate McClaren, but there is no way Graham Carr is the main problem and removing him will solve all or most of our problems. Our squad is unbalanced and hardly fit for purpose, but Graham Carr does not determine our transfer strategy, he just executes part of it. He's a glorified chief scout, tasked with finding players with a financial upside. As far as I am concerned I've long believed he was the only thing remotely acceptable at the club, as he did for a while find good players for decent fees, but since he's moved up to the DoF role our squad has actually become weaker and less balanced and we put our fate in the hands of one incompetent manager after another who were incapable of getting the best out of the players he recommended, and he has to take his share of the blame for that. Ultimately though, there is only one man ultimately responsible for hiring duds who have hired more duds who have hired more duds, and that man has actually confirmed so himself.
