I can't see why we're interested in Gameiro tbh. He's exactly the sort of striker we don't need.

A striker who scores goals?

Well yeah if you're a simpleton who's rather slow mentally then you'd probably think like that. If however you know a bit more about football you'd wonder why spurs would be interested in a midget poacher when it's looking likely we're sticking with 4-5-1 and are in desperate need of a target man.

You'll probably sign him, and we'll end up with Defoe. Guess you'll sell Keane this summer as well ...

That's what i think will happen if we are indeed interested.

I have read that.

Their concerns and caring about the safety of the site is great. I just think they are scared off by the wrong reasons. Theres just no way the forum can be shut down because someone posts a link to some other site.. It just doesn´t make sense.

I know what you mean mate, it always seems crazy to me that YouTube can get away with hosting large amounts of copyrighted material and making advertising money off it while people who just link to it can be threatened with action.

But at the same time this is a brilliant forum and if the people in charge believe this is a step worth taking to protect it then I don't think it's a great loss.

I imagine it would never get to the forum being shut down, but I can see why they don't want to take the risk.

sorry to go off topic but this is the ONLY site that i frequent that has such a drachonian attitude re. videos

every other message board i use allows links to vids to be posted and/or ebedding

Exactly,

And this debate will as always end with the "take it or leave it" argument without anyone really saying what is right.

To the mods, I really like this forum and your work with it. All brilliant. Its just a shame that you are wrong on this link policy. I work with website development and have never experienced such a strict forum. Theres just no way a link to some other site can ever ever shut you down. Thats it.

Years ago would have believed you but the fact is its happened. The server owners were approached by the premier league and its lawyers and demanded the site be taken down and it was taken down. We had no say at all. We're with different hosts now, in fact our second lot of hosts since then but its something that we dont fancy happening again so we give no excuse for it to happen again.

So im afraid you'll just have to put up with it as i cant imagine that rule like the fixtures rule will change.

When he says taken down, he means 'literally deleted without a way of bringing it back at zero notice'.

You should save these series of posts for the next smart arse who thinks they know better than the admin.

It's frustrating tracking these stories when there seems to be no culture of attributing sources whatsoever in the European press. When I was writing sports if I'd ever tried to get away with "the Green Bay Packers are understood to be interested in Chicago quarterback Joe Smith" my editor would've thrown the story back at me with a big "SAYS WHO?" I teach college journalism now and I'd never let a student get away with half of what the English press reports. It's not always possible to use a name but even "a source within the club" or "someone close to the player" would be helpful, if for no other reason than to lend confidence that the reporter isn't just making s*** up to meet a deadline.

If i knew that we couldn't express our opinion in your forum, i would never sign...

I only wanted to warn you that it will be very complicated for Newcastle to sign those players, but as we say in french 'l'espoir fait vivre'.

On Gameiro front; lots & lots of noise from France yesterday about £10m #Nufc bid. That is being refuted from St James'.

Aye, but are the club staying silent because we haven't made a bid or because they don't want that bid to become public knowledge and, as Lorient would presumably want, to start a bidding war.
