Yohan Cabaye retires

He was always likely to spend a fair amount of time riding the bench. Even more so after they add another couple of world class players in the summer I suppose.

He'll be a starter very soon imo and I can see him keeping his place in the  team.

Commentator said " Cabaye leaving seems to have ripped the heart out of this club" As cheesy as that sounds it's pretty true.

But I think just as bad is all of Pardew's soundbites (and no doubt saying it to the players too) that have basically been saying our season is over. Every single player has given up.

Think about all of the money we got off the club that some claim are the richest in world football.  £19 million looks less of a bargain every time we play.  Are the ones who said it was a good deal still happy that we got the cash?

Every loss and shit performance could probably add 3.0M to each. 19M was and always will be a joke of a transfer sum for a player of Cabaye's influence on/off the pitch in the form he was currently in.

Heard or read somewhere today that the last time we won a game without Cabaye was in 2012. :jesuswept:

We've won in the cup without him. In the league this season, we beat Fulham without him starting - however the only goal was after he came on. Last league win without him was December 2012 vs QPR (1-0 Shola).

Of course they are, Leeds/Pompey /world class balance sheets etc.

We need some songs about the balance sheet.

Unlike some other teams

We live within our means

in the Keegan days, a player like Cabaye would be blessed to play for a club like us. Hell, even during Sir Bobby Robson's tenure. Today, we're a stepping stone. Sickening.

Due the monster that has become of the Champions League, most clubs below the enriched top 4 are now stepping stones for the better players. It's not like the old days when there was prestige in the second tier and the financial gap wasn't a fucking huge chasm.
