Yohan Cabaye

Recommended Posts

Newcastle United can confirm the sale of Yohan Cabaye to Paris Saint-Germain for an undisclosed fee.

Yohan leaves the club after two-and-a-half seasons at St. James' Park.

Newcastle United have benefitted significantly from Yohan's talents since his arrival from Lille in the summer of 2011, and the player has likewise benefitted, developing hugely during his time on Tyneside.

The Club wanted to keep him but the lure of Champions League football and the prospect of being involved in the sporting project at PSG was an opportunity that Yohan made very clear to us he wanted to take.

Yohan leaves the Club with our best wishes for his future at PSG and, hopefully, as part of the French national squad for this summer's World Cup.

Nice statement, but can't help thinking that last line is a bit of a dig.

Really wish he'd stayed longer, deserved to have a squad built around him to compete for the title, but we were never going to match his ambition under Ashley. We should have pushed on after the 5th place season, but failed and this was inevitable. Still feel could have kept him for another half season at least, feels quite brief :(

Best of luck to him, no hard feelings tbh even despite the strike, when on the pitch he gave his all.
