The Prophet
If this £35m is being used to pay players wages for the next few years, what are the television income and gate receipts of 30-40,000 season tickets being spent on? The only thing more staggering than the brass neck of them using this ridiculous excuse as a way of getting out of investing in the team is that people are buying into it. I know exactly what you mean, the transfer window shut last night and we still haven't fully strengthened, it's a bloody joke. He isn't really saying that though, it's more a responce to the Edwards tweet. But even still people live in this crazy world whereby they think because a players fee is reported as say £6m then he cost that amount. When in truth you factor in the wages, the agents fee, his signing on fee you will be more than likely looking at between £8-10m. We were promised 35m spent on transfers/wages that is what we're getting. Yes I wish it was 35m on transfers but it isn't. Ba for me seems a great deal but I can't speak on Marveaux because I haven't seen him play. We are taking a more frugal approach and the sooner folk accept that the better, it hasn't diminished the entertainment value in my opinion last year saw some fantastic football and matches. Of course I do appreciate that Wullie has his opinion which would appear to be anti-Ashley so be it, that's his decision. Again though, there's no way wages should be factored into a transfer budget give the price of tickets and the annual TV payment. Don't get me wrong I'm more concerned about the quality of player we sign rather than how much of the Carroll money we spend, but I still agree with Wullie on this point. Yes and what about the fact we paid Premier League wages in 09-10. Some money will have had to go on covering that which I bet won't have been cheap. Yes he's a penny pincher but it's this constant drivel about 'spending the 35m'. We've signed 3 good players already with 2 months to go, I'm happy. We still brough in nearly fifty thousand every week and received a substantial chunk of TV money, I highly doubt we took a fundamental loss. You appear to conflating my argument's. I've said it before, I'm more concerned about the quality of player we're bringing in as opposed to how much of the 35 million we spend. With that I'm happy with the buisness we've done so far. However I agree with Wullie on the point that wages should not be taken into account in spending the Carroll budget.
Chicken Dancer
Has Pardew said we're only going to sign 2 more or something? Be very fucking worrying if that is the case, especially considering one is likely to be Neil Taylor.

Baggio
Are Pardew's comments this seasons equivalent of the 'no net spend' last summer? The one's before we signed Ben Arfa and Tiote?
Consortium of one
It was always dodgy how much of the Carroll money was going to be plowed back into the club. I mean, just the statement that fees and wages would go against the 35M is nebulous. We don't always know what the fees and wages are so we're in the dark from the get go. My feeling is that after the initial low budget (but good) signings is that Fat Bastard put the brakes on and from here on out for every plus on Pardew's agenda, Fat Bastard will take something away. Kind of like: Pardew: I really want to hang on to Coloccini. He's the heart of my defense. Lliambas: Fat Bast...errr... Mike says he's on high wages. if you want to keep him, you'll have to give something up. Pardew: Shit. I guess that means Zog returning is off the list then Lliambas: Atta boy! Anything else? Right then, cya Alan.

I havn`t paid much attention for a few months/years. Don`t get the time. Whats the running costs ? Do we have any outstanding loans ? Morgage ? Do we pay employers NI & Tax on top of everyones wages like normal businesses ? VAT ? Corperation tax ? Everything else. Its not like Ashley gets tv money, ticket money and player sales money and just keeps it.
Baggio
Expecting Carroll's fee to cover their wages over their entire contract is taking the piss if it is the case, I could understand if it was covering them for the first season until we establish ourselves. Like I said in another post I think we'll sign a striker and a winger which will take us to the limit of our squad in terms of numbers, then it will be a case of 1 in and 1 out with hopefully upgrades on the players that leave, the problem is where the market hasn't got going yet that nobody is taking players off us just yet which is frustrating. Chicken Dancer
Has Pardew said we're only going to sign 2 more or something? Doesn't fill me with confidence, considering we need at least 3/4 for the first team (argubly) and also squad fillers. Long summer. Suppose you can't complain with our buisness so far like, but would like a right winger/striker as priorities.

He'll come out with a statement in 3 weeks (having signed nobody) saying he's optimistic we might still bring in one more player.
Guest Recoba
So far it has been mentioned by local journalists that some if the Carroll money has been used on Tiotes new contract (50k per wk for 6 years is almost 19 million). Undersoil heating for Little Benton (half a million?). Now Ba's fees and Marveauxs wages. The club could claim they have waxed the lot! How much is Marveaux on? 50k a week for 5 years is 13 million, Id assume he's on around that...

Perhaps they are planning to make sure the last two signings are decent ones and we are planning to blood more of our youngsters this year to fill out the gaps. I just hate the idea of us going in to the season with a paper thin squad again, even if it has improved in some ways. Time will tell as always... but I'm not going to bang on about the cliche of "judge the window once it's closed" this year. Done that too much. Guest VegasToon
Honestly don't give a fuck how much we spend as long as we improve the squad. I am very happy with what we have done so far. Would be even happier if we got rid of Smith and Xisco.
SEMTEX
I'm still holding out hope that Xisco will turn up to training a new man, bang in 30 goals and take us to our first trophy in 600 years.
timeEd32
Has he been around at all since Pardew arrived? Have they met? I can't help but think he'd be at least as good as Best if given a proper chance.
Hughesy
It is ridiculous that Ashley doesn't just spend on all his money on NUFC. I mean we only owe him £100-200 million. He must keep bankrolling us!!

BONTEMPI
2 more players should be a Striker and Winger, if we can get centre half cover cheapish and add this welsh tosser i'd be happy enough.

If we improve the squad with no money spent to the point where we're coming second in the table, the question to then ask is, why didn't we invest and we might have come first? Tsunami
Why did Ashley buy the club for a bit fun then run it like a business and take his fun to the casino and spread betting. He doesn't seem capable of letting others in on his fun. Money invested in NUFC is at a premium, 10's of millions lost in bets is dealt with as loose change. The man is a cunt.
