KaKa
5 minute flashes? Gouffran hasn't managed 5 minutes in 10 months. If we want to be challenging for the top 6-8 positions, which is where a club of our size should be, not scrapping with the likes of QPR and Burnley down at the bottom, neither Marveaux or Gouffran should be anywhere near our first XI. Not as supporting left backs, no.

Of course, but one is (and the first name on the team sheet) and the other, who can actually create something, isnt. I know which one I'd rather have right now. Ste
I don't totally rate Marv, but you need players of his ilk in your team or you'll struggle to create chances. It's stupid that we haven't got that central player other than de Jong, but I'd say he was a different type of option.
Ash
How many times did he play in the #10 role for us? It's hardly surprising he didn't pull up any trees as a winger in this league.

Yeah, he never suggested the attributes to be a wide player.
KaKa
Not sure he ever got a run at number 10. Think half a game before getting yanked for not flying into tackles.
TRon
Anyone with half an eye for football could see that Marveaux had the best end product of our midfield players from an attacking point of view. True enough he wasn't great going backwards, but since we were playing with 3 defensive midfielders for the majority of his time here, that wasn't really important. How's it working it now we've got 11 grafters on the pitch apart from that penalty box moocher Cisse? Just imagine if he wasn't playing how much better we'd look as a team. KaKa
Hahahahahahahahahahaha ... you have to see the quotes from the Gunigamp manager on Marveaux man! “We know that when operating at his level, he’s not a player for Guingamp. His future is not here, he has the qualities to evolve well above. He has used us as a springboard but it does not bother us at all.” “We do a little of Newcastle’s work, they are going to get a hell of a player.” Honestly ... I could cry a flood of tears at the tragedy of gifting other teams Marv, Ben Arfa and Mapou man. The guy actually thinks he's going to come back to us, and be of use to us God this is too depressing. DJ_NUFC
Shocking quotes, tbh. How fucking clueless is Alan fucking Pardew?
Ryan_Taylor
Ideally by the time he (and MYM) come back. Pardew will be long gone.

Ste
Still not convinced he's that great but you need a player of his ilk in the team. We have zero creativity in midfield.

AyeDubbleYoo
I love the phrase 'offloading' when applied to all of our most useful players. Shame we're no closer to 'offloading' fucking Saylor or Obertan.
loki679
Newcastle United cut the winger adrift, but his form at Guingamp has been good and he might work in the new system devised by Alan Pardew
Ronaldo
Still calling him a winger. I hope Mark Douglas gets hit by a bus.
SiLvOR
Some of the comments man intless article - he is and was a lightweight who showed nothing much. He is also playing in a less intense league - can't cope with the PL. Cash in - he has had plenty of chances. Mark # Marveaux had plenty of chances when he was hear. He did not put in the effort, which was his main problem. He was a sulky type of player and never seemed to want tobe at the club in the first place. Cliche tastic. Hanshithispantz
It's just absolute bollocks, all of it It's pretty clear to anyone with eyes that he has the talent to make an impact. "Too light weight" "doesn't put the effort in" "coward" whilst we were still carting out Shola Ameobi, it was absurd.
Interpolic
Got sick to death of people telling me he "hid" and "disappeared" at a time when he was getting a 10 minute run-out once or twice a month.
LoveItIfWeBeatU
http://www.themag.co.uk/the-mag-articles/sylvain-marveaux-latest-piece-wishful-thinking/ Is Sylvain Marveaux the latest piece of wishful thinking Wednesday 22nd October 2014 by Dean Wilkins The current mood appears to be to take any positive and turn it into something that is ridiculously optmistic, the latest case apparently Sylvain Marveaux. We have seen Gabriel Obertan hailed as like a new signing after supposedly turning the corner, this based on an OK display at Swansea and a match winning performance in a clash of two poor teams against Leicester. Sammy Ameobi has also been touted as having now shown what he can do, these claims sparked by one decent cross against Swansea. Now this morning I have read about Sylvain Marveaux doing really well in France and what a bonus he could be if he comes back to Newcastle in the summer. A quick check over the Channel and the facts tell you something else. Marveaux’ on-loan club Guigamp have lost seven of their first ten Ligue 1 matches and are second bottom of the League. Marveaux has contributed no league goals but he has got two assists. The respected independent analysis site whoscored, that is used by much of the football industry and analyses every match that all major European clubs take part in, gives Marveaux an average rating of 6.36 out of 10 which puts him seventeenth best in the Guigamp squad. Not great going for a player who is easily the highest paid on their books. The entire positive story that is being given on Marveaux appears to come from the match where he scored twice against PAOK in the Europa League a few weeks ago. The old saying about absence making the heart grow fonder, seems in this instance to be ignorance hopefully making the fans more optimistic when it comes to journalists spinning stories. http://www.whoscored.com/Teams/
