Arteta would struggle to find a good team willing to pay his wage when there are cheaper alternatives on the continent.

Once again, James gets it 100% right.

Tbf there wasn't a 300 word explanation about how Arteta's play on the wing wasn't suited to the altitude of the pitches in England and the gradient of the grass so you got off lightly.

Everton fans plan protest march against club's direction

Everton fans' group The Blue Union is to hold what it calls a "peaceful protest march" against the direction of the club at Goodison Park on Saturday.

The Blue Union, who feel Everton are stagnating under chairman Bill Kenwright, hope hundreds fans will take part before the game with Aston Villa.

"This is not a personal attack on Kenwright as our detractors claim," spokesman Joe Jennings told BBC Sport.

"We are protesting about the reasons we are unable to invest in the team."

Merseyside Police have granted permission for the march, which will start near the ground at 1400 BST and finish at the directors' entrance.

"Fans to meet on Spellow Lane behind Everton megastore at 1400 BST and march down Goodison Road to the directors' entrance at Goodison Park."

Everton sold Mikel Arteta and Jermaine Beckford to Arsenal and Leicester for a combined £14m on deadline day at the end of August but boss David Moyes made only three loan signings over the summer.

Kenwright has often stated his desire to bring new investors into the club and admitted last month that the Toffees could not borrow any more money, while the £9m they raised from the sale of their former training ground at Bellefield had gone straight to the bank.

The Blue Union say the group's aim is not to force Kenwright to leave but want the sale of the club to be taken out of his control.

In a statement announcing the protest, the group's members said they wanted to see Everton "appoint a fully autonomous group of professional individuals who can effectively develop and implement a strategy that will identify and sell the club to a buyer who can demonstrate an ability and a genuine desire to take the club forward on both a commercial and football level."

The Blue Union is a coalition of Everton supporters groups and independent websites, including Evertonians for Change, Keeping Everton in Our City, The People's Group and SOS1878.co.uk, who are concerned at the lack of investment in the club.

More than 400 fans attended its inaugral public meeting last weekend, when the plans for the march were laid.

Jennings, an officer of The Blue Union and editor of the SOS1878.co.uk fansite, added: "We hope as many like-minded Evertonians take the opportunity on Saturday to convey their unhappiness at the current situation.

"The Blue Union wish to tackle the issues not the individuals. It would be wrong to say we are simply protesting about the lack of investment in the team. No Evertonian wants the club to spend money they have not got.

"In any case, the club are in no position to do so because the current board have disposed of all the tangible assets. We're now disposing of the only assets which are left, the intangibles, the players.

"Evertonians want strong leadership and a strong board with a strong business plan."

I did not include a rich Premier League Club panic buying in my analysis.

Hire someone to find a buyer for the club, like Ashley did.

They have been doing that for years. No one wants them. For years, Moyes has been the only one stopping a fallen great club plummeting down the leagues.

I really don't get it with the press and Moyes. Never say a bad word about him, much like 'arry and Fergie. Moyes has spent a fortune, some not bad signings and some real wastes of money. When things go wrong it's always injuries or lack of investment that are the reason. At their best he has them playing like an Allardyce side. All aggro and high ball, very little silky football through the years.

We can play some shite football for sure, but actually we've played a fair bit of good football. Certainly no worse than what Newcastle have served up in recent years, as means of a comparison. All aggro? sorry mate, but you've obviously not watched us much.

When things go wrong it's injuries and lack of investment that's to blame? Too fucking right it is. We've had rotten luck with injuries over the years, and we don't have a pot to piss in. Too right they're reasons for us not doing better.

Wait, wait. Missed the best bit. "Moyes has spent a fortune." Which planet are you living on?

I can see the nonsensical reply. "Look over the years, he's clearly spent money."

Kenwright held talks with potential buyers?

No chance in hell he has. They leak feel-good stories like potential takeovers every time there is some pressure on Kenwright.

No, we haven't. At the public inquiry into the Kirkby stadium last year it was categorically stated that EFC is not for sale.

They only say otherwise in the press to placate the fans.

The biggest question mark against Bill Kenwright's competence lies in his willingness to hold a meeting with this kind of pressure group and not expect to get shafted.

Yet Ashley gets slated for not doing that. Not saying which is right just an observation. Loose loose situation for both of them in that particular situation.

Neil - Kenwright portrays himself, and is portrayed in the media, as an incredibly passionate and loyal Everton supporter that would do anything for the club. Is this accurate or still believed by supporters? Do you think he's genuinely looking for a buyer who has the best interests of Everton F.C. at heart or is he just looking to make some money?

Very, very sceptical whenever a story about meeting potential buyers comes out. As 1878 rightly says, these are almost always leaked when Kenwright is under pressure (look at the latest story about 3 mystery interested parties, on the eve of a protest - what a coincidence) and the sly timing of these perpetuates the feeling that Kenwright is not being entirely honest.

Personally, I don't think he lies when he says he's a passionate Evertonian and hey, he may well be a 'nice guy'. But I also think he is incompetent, going off the tidbits we hear from things like the BU meeting. £24m operating costs, on what? Kenwright: "I don't know, sorry, you'll have to ask someone else". Incredible.

That now infamous meeting aside, communication from our hierarchy is non-existent. And the things we do hear reek of total bullshit (sound familiar?)

So, who are these buyers? What happened in the previous failed attempts to sell the club? Why did the deals fall through?

Fans are waiting for answers to questions like these, but we're going to be waiting a long, long time.

Moyes has spent about £8m net since he arrived at Everton.
