That might be the logic. Would be good logic if Raylor wasn't prone to be terrible. The quicker he's out, the better. If Coloccini is out next game, it should be; Santon - Kadar - Perch - Simpson. Ryan Taylor awfulness has really come out in recent games against top clubs like Man City, Man United, and Chelsea. Tottenham also tried to exploit this weakness, but Gareth Bale didn't produce. Santon was a right winger by trade before jose turned him into a full back and he hates playing left back. Also, he is done, both knees are dodgy for such a young man which is a great shame because he was one hell of a player Why would an Inter fan have a Milan player as their username. ohmelads Posted December 9, 2011 Share Posted December 9, 2011 Pardew has got most of his decisions right this season when it comes to team selection to win games and keeping competition for places. But it's a little bit ridiculous that the club paid 5M - a major sum under this regime - for a full back to replace Jose Enrique and 14 games into the season he's still awaiting his debut and barely gets off the bench. Ryan Taylor hasn't been that good. Taylor has done an admirable job in a position that's not on his natural side, but it's obviously no permanent solution. It would have been wrong for Santon to walk into the team given Taylor's early season form,and Pardew wasn't keen on changing a successful back four. But 14 games in he's barely seen any action at all and awaits his debut week in week out. We've leaked 7 goals in 3 games albeit to top sides, and Taylor has looked very uncomfortable in that position. I'm a bit tired of the debate about Santon's best position because Taylor clearly isn't a left back so it's a moot point. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Zero Posted December 9, 2011 Share Posted December 9, 2011 I think it's because a critical factor for a solid defense is mutual understanding among the defenders. Santon hasn't develop a solid understanding with the other defenders yet. I can't criticize Pardew's decision yet because it's his trust on the back four leads to our successful start of the season, having the best defense record in the league. But what's going to happen is he's going to be thrown into the team amid a defensive crisis, with no match practice all season and expected to hit the ground running. Let's hope he does but we have been here before with foreign imports. The idea of easing someone into the team is that they get minutes on the pitch. Ben Arfa has been eased in, Sammy Ameobi at a similar age to Santon is getting chances here and there. It doesn't look like Santon will be afforded the same chance to acclimatise. Early results were very good and no-one expected anything from the last 3. Fuck up over the next few games though and he's gonna have to start explaining why he won't give Santon a chance. Cajun Posted December 9, 2011 Share Posted December 9, 2011 I think it's just a case of Pardew trying to keep a good defence together, ok Santon is more than likely better than the individual parts (Simpson or Raylor) but they have formed an effective unit which lead to us having one of the best defences in the league. Don't think there is any conspiracy or reason for concern, it's just the case that a settled back 5 can perform as well as a group of very talented individuals. Not to mention one of the most mobile and industrious left wingers and powehouses like tiote in midfield. The likes of Ryan Taylor have certainly been made to look at lot better than they are because of it. It must have been the intention to blood Santon in as a replacement? Besides Ryan Taylor is a solid professional, an admirable quality of his, so he'd be able to handle moving aside. Seems wasteful given the expense of the signing.
