Realistic Transfer Targets

Newcastle United do not have to spend a fortune to improve first-team squad

(...)

Fabrizio Miccoli (Palermo)

Over 100 goals in Serie A should make anyone ignore the fact he’s just out of his twenties.

He has played a lot of his football on the left side of a 4-3-3, rather than as an out-and-out striker, which certainly goes in his favour.

Miccoli has been capped 10 times and won’t be well known in the UK, but has 190 goals with the likes of Juventus, Fiorentina and Benfica.

:anguish:

Great player. Would tear apart most Premier League defenses. We lacked the funds to buy him at the time (high wages I guess) so he ended up returning to Italy.

Fast, skilled, accurate right foot... very underrated. Scored a 40 yards volley some moths ago.

Martinez confirms Antolin Alcaraz, Maynor Figueroa, Franco Di Santo and Ronnie Stam all leaving on frees.

Anything to pick off here?

Stam/Figuero - A 4th full back to allow the likes of Tav to have a full season on loan?

Alcaraz - Any better than Williamson?

Di Santo - Better than Shola?

Di Santo is definitely better than Shola, but we should be aiming higher

Was thinking more as a basic squad player. We need a quality forward and winger/wide forward but for depth we could do with another body so someone cheap but with a bit of experience would be handy.

Just seen his goalscoring record, not the most prolific bless him :D

I would prefer to give someone like Campbell the chance to be that fallback option and get some playing time to see what he's made of (unless we're loaning him out) rather than a direct replacement for Shola. Don't see the point in experience if it is proven to be ultimately not good enough.

Fair point.

Would love to see a few of our youngsters get full season loans next season though.

Tavernier is older than Haidara and only a few months younger than Santon for example.

Would be great to have a squad deep enough to try and get the likes of Sammy, Ferguson, Tavernier, Good, Campbell, Bigiramana, Inman, Dummett etc.. 30-40 games. Some of them are getting on a bit now for the level/experience they currently have so they need make or break seasons imo.

You look at teams like Spurs/Arsenal and they seem to have loads of players out on loan every season.

Wonder if we'll replace Simpson or just rely on Santon for RB cover. Would like to see us go for Corchia or Aurier if a champions league club doesn't pick them up.

I imagine we'll stick with:

RB

Debuchy

Santon

Tavernier

LB

Santon

Haidara

Yanga-Mbiwa

We won't sign Carlton Cole ffs!

Can't wait until he retires, we must have 'wouldn't be surprised if we sign Carlton Cole' posts every transfer window for god knows how long despite him going against every criteria we must have when signing player
