I would rather watch us struggle at SJP than succeeding playing in some out of town stadium. SJP is our home, our identity and history which should never be forsaken for extra commercial revenue or some other bull s***. In this day and age where history and tradition means f*** all the only real thing we have going for us is our ground and our fan base, the very things that should never be traded or allowed to be corroded by commercialism. f*** a new stadium. I'd rather 30k than 60k if it meant moving.

I understand how you feel - none of us want to leave SJP - but if the club was to have any hope of matching the PLs top sides we need a bigger stadium when the time is right. I certainly WOULDN'T want to stay at SJP if it meant capacity limited to 30,000...its small club thinking. Arsenal had to move from Highbury and that must have been just as much a wrench for their fans too.

Juve downgraded.

If we moved to get something bigger and better it would be hard to argue with. The club will be here longer than any of us and if I'm not going to see us win anything I'd much rather one of children/grand children did

I genuinely don't think a move would be better tbh. A lot of these new stadiums we're seeing built for PL clubs lack the character that their originals had in my opinion. Moving from SJP would be an absolute travesty. Only a handful of PL clubs are just catching up to our capacity after 17 years. I'm sure we could find a way to expand one of the stands to get that extra 10-15k rather than pack up and move to another cookie cutter bowl of the modern era.

The TV money has long since gone past a point where an extra few seats is going to make a difference financially. An extra 20k seats on a ticket price of £30 across 19 PL games works out at £11m a year. That'll buy you a bog standard PL midfield player, but that's only after you've covered the cost of the build - the new White Hart Lane is estimated to cost £750m. Leave the ground where it is.

Not sure using the Emirates as evidence of the benefits of moving to a new stadium holds much water either.

The TV bubble will burst eventually imo. some super duper chinese league will have some part in that future. and then clubs will look to the traditional fan base again. Ashley will likely have destroyed decades of good will in that respect and will probably sell up and fuck off at that point.

You sound like you don't want that investment into the U.K. economy?

Well it's useful but compared to being in the EU it's small fry.

Don't get me started on the EU...have you seen how much we pay INTO the thing every year and how much the red tape these bureaucrats produce costs UK business..? 120 BILLION is the latest estimate.

Anyway, this site is about FOOTBALL - not politics.

Agreed, but there is an EU thread in General Chat that could do with some positive Brexiting stories if you have 'em.

Glad that Stifler has seen that Ashley's towers won't necessarily block future expansion. Shit that the club won't benefit at all from these plans though.

Where did you get your view from...Brussels or the Grauniad...? The UK is leaving and will eventually do well out of it so people should suck it up and get on with it...incidentally, I think the Mail is a comic...

Britain being dictated to by unaccountable bureaucrats in Brussels(and eventually having to join the Euro) was ONE of the reasons we now live in Australia...the others are more obvious.
