Ashley17
The stuff about the fixture list is clearly bollocks, but where we have been lucky so far (particularly so for us) is the lack of injuries. Agreed, central midfield & central defence in particular are areas where our backup is nowhere near the ability of the starters. Need Williamson fit sooner rather than later for starters. Obviously losing Cabaye and/or Tiote will be a huge problem, nothing convincing about Gosling's ability or fitness so far and Guthrie, whilst tidy, isn't even half the player Cabaye is. Having said that it's not like you can except to have superstars playing backup, so having young players like Gosling & Abeid as back up in there is quite smart. Just not Smith, ever. Baggio
Thought we were average today and at one point I didn't see that winner coming, Wigan's tactics in the first half were very good of playing long diagonal balls to take advantage of our lack of pace at the back, still a win is a win and some good results for us this weekend so far too. The reason I thought we struggled was down to Tiote and Cabaye being awful, neither could get hold of the game and Cabaye went completely missing after the yellow card until the last 15 minutes with Tiote dazzling us with Parker like pirouettes while getting caught in possession time and time again. Krul - 7 R Taylor - 6 Coloccini - 7 S Taylor - 7 Simpson - 6 Obertan - 6 Tiote - 5 Cabaye - 5 Jonas - 7 Ba - 5 Best - 7 Ameobi - 6 Ben Arfa - 5 Marveaux -
Guest BlacknWhiteArmy
Obertan was poor but is quite quickly becoming a scapegoat for fans which is a tad annoying absolutely, disgusting the way he was jeered off Wrong as it was I don't think Pardew has helped by adding to the fans frustration with him by selecting him week after week when he doesn't contribute much at all. He has contributed, though.
Yorkie
Tiote and Cabaye worse than Obertan? Come on.
Interpolic
Tiote 5, what the fuck! He had a smashing game today.
Revolution Number 9
At least give Cabaye some credit for the goal.
Baggio
Tiote and Cabaye worse than Obertan? Come on. I thought both were awful and detailed why. Obertan was more of a mixed bag, some decent things with some erratic stuff but I don't think he was as bad as people make out, in fact some of his link up and cross field play was really good. Ashley17
Aye but...Obertan created nothing. At least Cabaye scored
madras
Tiote 5, what the f***! He had a smashing game today. no he didn't. got caught on the ball more than ever (it's now becoming a bit of a problem, i could see other teams targetting it)
Baggio
Tiote 5, what the fuck! He had a smashing game today. He was fucking awful man! Kept getting caught on the ball and giving away possession as he was holding on to it too long.
Yorkie
Literally can't think of one thing Obertan did right, other than tracking back on the odd occasion. Would like to see his statistics; barely found a Newcastle shirt throughout the entire ninety minutes.

jdckelly
on Obertan I only had radio commentary so maybe it looked different if people watched it but it did sound like he got into some good positions but at times the support didn't get into the box quick enough to give him an option
Interpolic
Fucking hell, I honestly thought Tiote had a really good game.
madras
f***ing hell, I honestly thought Tiote had a really good game. did you mistake him for krul ?
Yorkie
I thought Tiote was okay but dilly-dallied on numerous occasions which led to him surrendering possession cheaply. Not his best game but he was particularly dominant in the last fifteen minutes; was absolutely crucial in us closing the game out.
Ronaldo
Tiote played pretty well I thought. He never shines in games like that, though. Never.
ponsaelius
Fucking hell, I honestly thought Tiote had a really good game. I thought he was poor. Diame raped him of possession time and time again.
Mick
on Obertan I only had radio commentary so maybe it looked different if people watched it but it did sound like he got into some good positions but at times the support didn't get into the box quick enough to give him an option can only think of one time when he put a ball into the box and nobody had reacted to his run, the other players probably thought he'd just stop anyway and not bother making the run. I would say that Obertan was our weakest player today and we lost a lot of possession because of him.

Tooj
I thought Tiote held on to the ball too long today. Although I attribute that to the lack of movement in front of him.
Baggio
Ba was the worst player I thought, done nothing of note in the first half and was shocked he was left on and Best taken off, then when he did get a chance with the header he wasted it by putting it straight at the keeper. Interpolic
I do think Cabaye's done his invisible man impression quite a few times this year mind, delectable as he is let's hope that's more a case of him getting used to the league than an indication of the type of player that he is. Mick
agreed but tbf, seems more a poor game than him being s***, like some are trying to make out. Obertan was part of the reason that it was a poor game and I think that was highlighted once Marveaux came on.

Although I attribute that to the lack of movement in front of him. i knopw what you're getting at but too often today he was simply muscled off the ball, yes lack of movement meant he had to hold on to it more than he wanted but a good few times he had opportunities to lay it safe and tried to hold it and lost it instead. also several 60-40's in his favour which he lost. maybe over critical as i'm not used to seeing him lose out so much.
