There's absolutely no reason why Spain should be so ultra conservative. They have the best players in the world and choose to spoil the game by grinding down the opposition, rather than playing the football we know they're capable of because we see it every week at Barca/Madrid. So fucking dull. And don't give me that "ooh it's just their style you ignoramus" shit, it's fucking crap.

Probably because the main reasons for Barca and Real's ability to change the pace of a game in a second are not Spanish and Spain don't have equivilants. The equivs are too pedestrian/similar to those already playing.

Saying that as I've said many a time their possession style is much a form of defence as it is attack.

Actually prefer Paul Merson to Mark Bright. Sure he's thick as pigshit but at least he recognises it and comes out with some funny stuff (albeit often unintentional as it arises from his thickness). Bright just drones on, and on, and on about his boring, unjustified opinions.

Hate seeing Xabi Alonso and Busquets in the same team. Hate this two-defensive-midfielders bollocks that seems to be flavour of the month.

The only player that goes beyond Torres is Silva, they just seem more focused on keeping the ball and tiring the other team out than actually trying to create opportunities which is baffling because they have the capability to rip any side in this competition to pieces. There's absolutely no need for Alonso in the side.

Spain are the most dominant national side in recent memory. Regardless of any discussion about aesthetics or even effectiveness, they are not going to change even a little bit until they stop winning every single thing available to them.

The 2008 side was pretty class, an attacking side that absolutely dominated everyone. Then Del Bosque comes in and Spain grind their way (with some luck) to shitty 1-0 wins in the World Cup. They were fortunate to even get past the group stage, they should have conceded more goals in the knockout stages (and would have been f***ed because of it), but fortune favoured Del Bosque and now we have Spain a goal away from getting knocked out again.
