The Prophet
If we want to finish seventh we simply have to win games like this, especially with tough games on the horizon. If we continue to defend like that midtable mediocrity could be on the horizon. 7th? Forget it. Why's that?

AyeDubbleYoo
Very strange, all the signings we made suggested a change to a more attractive passing game. Can only hope that Pardew realises that he has some good players (Santon, HBA) and some average (Raylor, Best), and selects the team on that basis in future. Begbie
What has happen to the fighting spirit of the team?? Many players looked uninterested today... I dont mind losing, but i mind losing when we are atleast trying! Perch is horrible, he doesnt have the strengt nor the hight to be a central defender, maybe on a kids team.. Coloccini looked uninspiring, Tiote seems like he has left our team already... I hope for the next game that Perch, Obertan, and best isnt starting. Get in Williamson, Ben Arfa on the wing, and move Vuckic in behind Ba when Cabaye is back. PS! I really hope Santon isnt bad injured(cant see any reason else to take him off). Apart from the Villa game this new style just hasn't materialised. Even when we were winning these sorts of so-called winnable matches we didn't play particularly fluid football. No chance of anyone coming in who can make a difference ashley dont like the jan window. Although tiote is on his way out probably replaced by mediocrity . Cant see where our next point is going to come from after tonight performance.
TherealnorthernTOON
I know people on here hate perch. But really he wasn't that much worse then coloccini wich where totally crap on several occations today. Severly dissapointed today. And his tackle late on against odemwingie showed his furstration of the night. We can't play such a high line against fast forwards. They were lethal and we were toothless. Even though we had ben arfa onfield we still went for the wingplay. We should've played more infield. Ba had a good day today and could've scored more. johnnypd
Colo was awful, reminded me of how he played in the first season. But we know in the right kind of defence he's a colossus, so why push up almost to the half way line, with Tiote overwhelmed and off-form, against Odemwingie and Long, two of the fastest strikers in the league? Just a stupid, stupid move, but I do wonder if it was to negate Perch's upper body weakness - he can get pushed off the ball easily and will lose 10 times out of 10 in the air. defending the space in behind means these aspects don't get exposed, but it ruins Colo's natural game, especially with no Taylor in there to cover. Playing Perch at centre-half is like starting a player who can't make a left turn like zoolander. no matter how good the rest of their game it's suicide due to their inherent faults. Not singling Perch out mind, it's not his fault the club fucked up by not bringing in another centre-half.
Guest Heneage
Krul- Nothing he could do with the goals really. His distribution still seems a weak point. Simpson- Blergh. He's a poor fullback tbh. I find his technique so incredibly awkward to watch. His decisions are quite poor, and he seems to only see the long option. Perch- Steady enough, but he's not up to this level if we're honest. He'll fill a void for now, but come the summer he's on a list of those that need to be culled. Coloccini- A striker he bossed in the CCC gave him the run around tonight. Rushing him back was never wise, and with a backline that is clearly lacking in understanding he was below par. Santon- Proof that you can play the ball out from the back. He passes, he moves and in truth his arrival also sparks the end of Simpson. Gutierrez- Had his moments but he's tailed off recently if I'm honest. I think he works well with Santon though. Tiote- Just looked horribly slow and languid today. Vuckic - After Ba the one brightspot of the night, looked good and direct and I'd hope to see more of him. Obertan- Needs removing for both our sake, and his own. Nothing game again. Ba- World class, best player on the park. Best- Very poor, looks rusty and hasn't had the Ba link up of previous weeks. Barfa- Looked a real danger, for me he has to replace Obertan. Raylor- Decent enough should be replacing Simpson though. Ameobi- Did nothing of note tbh.
Tiresias
Refering to the hoofing yeah, fair point, but by playing two up front he was pretty responsible.

That's not why we lost tonight, though. A slight lack of 'discipline and control' could have been skipped over had we not played James Perch & Co ridiculously high against Odemwingie and Long. SteveMc
Jonas looked slow and lethargic. The whole team has a serious lack of urgency about them. Without Ba we would be left completely without a hope of scoring. Ba is our most potent threat - but what you say there is patently untrue.
littlelunchbox
you know when cabaye agreed to sign for us it was on a bases that pardew said to him, he wanted the team to play a passing game. think pardew just forgot to tell him that he had passing it long all day in mind. I really wished we would play our football the same as when we are away. be patient and keep the ball choose the passes carefully not rush it and play it short, why did pardew change his tactics for home games? because he's afraid of the home crowd. our crowd are very impatient, hence groans everytime a man loses the ball and telling our defensive midfielder to shoot evertime he's like even 40 yards out. our supporters have to take alittle flack too. pardew and team are main culprits they are professionals and highly paid to with stand pressure from the crowd., they should be strong enough to not get influenced by them. we need to go back to the games when we played deep and attack when we can, not like now just play endless long balls from midfield and the wings. forgetting our organization and standing high up. The Prophet
Krul 5 - Not a lot he could of done about the goals. Simpson 4 - Tucked in far too much allowing Brunt time and space on the ball. On top of that he was woeful going forward, don't think he got a cross right all day, it's even worse when you conside how much time he was given on the ball. Perch 2 - West Brom completely exposed his poor psoitioning and lack of pace. Woeful play for all three goals. Coloccini 2 - His worst peformance in a long, long time. Long and Odeminwing got the better of him far too often. Like Perch didn't cover himself in glory for any of the goals. Santon 6 - Thought he was doing well in both defending and attacking aspects before he was taken off. I can only assume his removal was due to injury. Taylor 5.5 - Solid at the back, not too bad going forward. He's very, very right footed but that isn't his fault. Obertan 5 - Decent shift but made no real contribution as an attacking threat. Tiote 3 - Woeful. Sloppy in possession and allowed the West Brom midfield too much time and space in the final third. Vuckic 6 Has a fierce strike on him and was very unlucky not to notch himself a goal. You can tell he's more of an attacking player and ultimately we missed Cabaye's aggressiveness with Tiote having such a poor game. Jonas 5 - He's never been the same since that impressive display at Stoke. Did a lot of running with a lack of any real end product. He did improve slightly late on in the game. Ben Arfa 6.5 - Looked very sharp when he had the ball and got himself an assist. Unfortunately he spent large parts of his stint watching the ball sail over his head. Best 4 - Offered next to nothing, probably should of been brought off earlier. Someone really needs to pull him aside and teach him how to play watch the line. Shola 5 - Looked a little more dangerous than Best, but not by a lot. Ba 9 - Looks absolutely lethal in and around the eighteen yard area. Two more fine goals and another two (rightfully) chalked off. He carried the attack at times. Looked far more effective when we played it into feet. Pardew 5 - Picked the right line up but our flat second half performance warrentedchange much earlier than it was made, then when Ben Arfa was finally brought on we lumped it aimlessly over his head. Shocking tactics.
littlelunchbox
just trying to think when was the last time pardew played other than a 4-4-2/4-4-1-1 formation?
The Prophet
We're in real danger of putting an excellent start to the season to waste. We're still in the hunt for seventh but results and performances such as tonight's will sharp see us fall down the table.

Foluwashola
Proper footballing lesson tonight like. Played long ball shite for the most part. Not sure Tiote is arsed anymore. Vuckic, Ba and Santon the only positives. Long is a good player.
