Guest ItalianMagpie
The first few games it will be 'well you get what you pay for, £1.5m wasn't it!?' then he will get to grips and cause real problems. And that's when a release clause will pop out
Shearergol
Mark Douglas tweeted something about Gouffran being it [the replacement]. gs @gsowerby @MsiDouglas mark in your opinion is Gouffran the new striker or can we expect another?? Mark Douglas Mark Douglas @MsiDouglas @gsowerby Gouffran is the striker... Bit more on this in Journal tomorrow. How the fuck can he expand more on it then that? Pre-contract with someone? gdm
Probably the more on it tomorrow is just stuff about Gouffran signing
Stifler
For our French lads. https://shop.nufc.co.uk/cgi-bin/live/ecommerce.pl?site=theclubshop_nufc&state=item&dept_id=65&sub_dept_id=10&product_id=301252 Only £8, theirs is a reverse coloured one as well. gdm
Because Gouffran isn't a Ba level player, while Remy if you get the best out of him is. Wether that's true or not the club obviously rate him and he appears to be the back up option to Remy so this Best/lovenkrands stuff is nonsense
Flip
As long as Gouffran is better than Shola I don't care. For £1,5m he can be Obertan for all I care. It's not a risk and we are much more comfortable in defence now where we really have been lacking genuine quality. I have no doubt that Cisse will be class and won't get injured. *KNOCKs ON WOOD*
Pixelphish
I don't think he can be worse than Shola over 90 minutes, not a chance. Not going to pretend i've watched him play for years but he just cant be or surely we wouldn't be interested regardless of the fee.
Dinho lad
He's definitely not worse than Shola! He'll be a very useful and competent competitor for a starting spot, for definite. Bargain at that price.
Nobody
But most importantly Ian W, you would have been WRONG when you were optimistic that we would bring someone in. That's true. Well fuck me, it seems as you were RIGHT in not panicking

LFEE
I'd be very surprised if we signed another forward now. Same. No sign of Van Wolfscock then? His club/agent offered him to us but we weren't interested apparently...
Stottie
I don't get Redknapp's point. We have an Academy and youth teams, but such teams have a very poor record. If that's the standard of our youngsters, doesn't that leave us no option but to buy for the first team? No sensible club uses its first team to develop youngsters. Man U didn't with Wellbeck and Cleverly. They got the mackems and Wigan to do it for them.
Skirge
He writes it about us as a bitterness is there for his oldman from us, every club in the league looks abroad as its cheaper, as for local talent you try and get that through your youth system. I thought the article was quite good. He is right about us not producing enough players and trying to develop. Our biggest problem appears to be not having a good structure throughout the club to develop players. Whether we have the right coaches also is debatable
mattypnufc
When the English market has massively inflated prices for average players (Henderson and Downing for example) it's no wonder clubs look abroad. As I said in the other thread it reeks of a little scaremongering from areas of the press/former pro's who are inclined to be slightly anti-Newcastle. Whilst I agree we should be nurturing more local talent, the fact is that our youth and scouting setup has only really been properly established in recent years, we have to wait to see the benefits. NITON
Don't think redknapp has a valid argument when we have 3 players in the latest u17 England squad, two of them 'local' lads.
nufc4eva
Don't think redknapp has a valid argument when we have 3 players in the latest u17 England squad, two of them 'local' lads. The problem we have always had is getting them from there to the first team. Although to be fair to Pardew he has tried with loans for Tav / Inman and Dummett. That certainly changed when he came in and he has looked to push Sammy, Fergie etc on. Maybe the biggest problem is they need season long loans first, I just think we need to be doing more work at that under 18 / development level
joeyt
Was reading something about Sporting Lisbon's financial worries, didn't realise how much of a threat. Guess thats why they want rid of some of their star players (RvW)
TherealnorthernTOON
The feeling when Andy Carroll was shitting on the EPL our first season up has to be one of the greater ones in my stint as a Newcastle fan. Can't really remember much of the time before the downfall. But that feeling with a local lad leading the line and beeing a talisman for the club og city is great. Shame it wasn't longlasting.
