Cajun
I still don't see how not wanting to sign old players who you don't rate and will be difficult to shift when they have completely lost the last bit of ability they had equates to "yes please Mr Ashley sir, please let us be in a position where Shola and Jonas play 90 minutes every week, that would be awesome!". I definitely would have taken Bent but I'm much more pissed off we didn't sign Redmond than I am that we 'missed out' on Downing. He's looked class, cost about half the fee, will take up far less of our wage budget and is a long way off shit, old cunt who we are counting down the days till he fucks off. I think people have every right to turn their noses up at questionable signings because there are more than 2 players in the world but then I'm clearly an idiot. Guest Brazilianbob
It seems cleR to me at least, that Ashley has decided that the best value for money is on the January transfer window when we can pick up players whose contracts expire in the summer. So that will ne Gomis in January for £4m instead of £8m now.

That for 4m he'd risk potential relegation or simply lose that money on the final league position by it signing a striker now.
Zero
That is not a bad strategy, if our plan is just to stay in EPL i.e. Euro money is not factored in.

TRon
Could be bollocks but was told Pardew has basically been told he can sign the players he would like as long as they cost fuck all, while Carr will still be trying to find players that the club actually wants. So that's why we're hearing about the likes of Bent and Downing through Pardew blabbing about it but not really in for either, hence the laughable way the Bent issue was handled. They clearly don't trust Pardew which makes it all the more baffling that he's still here. James McCarthy was mentioned as someone who they'd be in for this week. Waiting for Poyet's court case to be settled maybe.

No mention of the court case obviously, but he did talk us up, and said he wasn;t sure why we're failing to get results with a good set of players. Just isn't plausible imo.
