Papiss Cissé

Recommended Posts

An erroneous story which has been circulated this evening by Steve Goodman, regarding Newcastle United striker Papiss Cisse and Real Madrid, is taken from a recent interview Papiss conducted with L’Equipe.

In the article, Mr Goodman states that Papiss has issued a “come and get me” appeal to Real Madrid. This statement is utterly untrue.

In the interview with L’Equipe, Papiss responded to a question about Real Madrid to say that he has admired the club since he was young. This in no way constitutes a ‘come and get me’ plea.

Mr Goodman further claims that Papiss ‘insisted he hopes to join them [Real Madrid]‘. Papiss has never made such a statement and refutes the suggestion in the strongest possible terms.

The player is completely committed to Newcastle United and is not interested in anything other than ensuring he and the team finish the season as strongly as possible.

The matter is now in the hands of the player’s legal representatives.

Newcastle United Deny Striker Papiss Cisse Wants Real Madrid Move

By Hugh Macknight Location: Newcastle

Newcastle United have denied star striker Papiss Cisse has issued a “come and get me” plea to Real Madrid.

Newspaper reports suggested the player, who has scored 13 goals in 13 games since his £10million move from Freiburg in January, would love to play for the Spanish giants.

But Cisse, who has spoken of the privilege of wearing the Magpies famous number 9 shirt, has pledged his commitment to Newcastle.

The player’s legal team is investigating.

A Newcastle United spokesman said the 26 year old’s comments to French sports newspaper L’Equipe had been misinterpreted.

The spokesman said: “This statement is utterly untrue.

“In the interview with L'Equipe, Papiss responded to a question about Real Madrid to say that he has admired the club since he was young.

“This in no way constitutes a 'come and get me' plea.”

The club denied a further claim the player insisted he would join Real Madrid.

She said: “Papiss has never made such a statement and refutes the suggestion in the strongest possible terms.

“The player is completely committed to Newcastle United and is not interested in anything other than ensuring he and the team finish the season as strongly as possible.

“The matter is now in the hands of the player's legal representatives.”

If there's the slightest hint of him going somewhere there'll be a bidding war.  Would be sad if we lost him but I can't see him going for less than an absolute fortune this window, so I'm not overly worried.

Benzema has been far better than Higuain this season.

Just been browsing RedCafe and their Cisse thread.  Sewelly man, how do you post on there and remain sane? I've never read such shite in my life.

*Found out because he didn't score against City

*Most overrated striker in the league

*Most of his goals have been tap ins (!)

*Won't score more than 10 next season

I'm sure most of those were sarcastic, trying to reverse jinx him before the City game. There was a lot of praise for him in that thread too, and for us in general on their football board.

There's a decent amount of good posters on there tbh, with a spectrum of fans from other clubs like on here.

re cisse getting his legal people onto it. it won't go that far but could you imagine the journo had to release the full transcript/recording of the interview. could set a precedent of having to tell the truth including putting things in context. could spell the end of the sports journo as we know it.

well i can dream!

They could easily get the paper to publish a formal apology, IMO. It'll be buried on page 94, but that's how it goes.
