At the end of the day, it is up to the individual which aspects of a religion he chooses to follow. It may seem hypocritical, but he can choose to believe whatever he wants. If he is ok with gambling, that is his choice.

Fuck me, are we still talking about him being a hypocrite?

Do all the people that call themselves christians believe that homosexuals should be killed? Do they all also think that sex outside of marriage is wrong? I'd say that 99% of all practicing christians cherrypick their beliefs to a degree, and I'd say it's probably no different with Islam.

Spot on! All this talk of hypocrisy is nonsense. There are prescribed rules for all religion, but all who profess a faith chose what he/she wants to believe in. It's nobody's business to tell Cisse what version of Islam he should believe in. If a particular act is prohibited by a Islam (or any religion for that matter) and Cisse wants to stick to that prohibition, then that's the end of it. Either both parties find a compromise, or part ways for a decent fee and get his replacement pronto.

Some bint from the mirror on twitter asking me to call/email about seeing Cisse in Aspers in the past.

Told her no ta.

Make some money out of it ffs

Why would I want to?

I've seen him playing black jack like once...and even then I had to do a double take.

I'd put the club first, whatever you think that action is I'd say do that.

I know what I'd do but that's me.

He gambles, it's a known fact. Don't really understand what else can be said.

He's held as a wronged Muslim in all of this in the press, the truth is very different. He's breaking a far bigger sharia law than the one he's opposing.

Not having a go, but do you know which sharia law is 'bigger'? How would you establish that?

What I mean is that we all know he gambles, so yes, he is picking and choosing his religious adherence. Like almost everyone does.

As for being a 'wronged Muslim', I haven't read any of the papers about this so I wouldn't know. But it's obviously not true that he's been wronged - our decision to have Wonga has just come into conflict with how he wants to live his life. Nobody is really wrong.

From what I know some Islamic organisation gave a judgement that the likes of Wonga were considered beyond the pale. Following that Cisse decided he didn't want to wear the shirt or was advised not to. Even if he gambles or drinks in private, that's still different to wearing a badge in front of millions and publicly endorsing loan sharks. Private vs public...it's not that hard to grasp the difference is it?

The problem I've got with him is that I simply don't believe his reasons and he's using his religion to drive his position. There's a belief that he was after an improved deal and it pretty evident that he likes the cash and nice to have's (Miss Newcastle for one). He could have simply said he didn't agree with Wonga as a company and didn't want to wear the shirt. However, he's brought his religious beliefs into this to get his way.

He's mugging us off and there's people out there thinking he's getting hard done by and trying to justify all of this. I'd tell him to get on the next plane out - Portugal or a new club.

He's hardly made a secret of the fact he enjoys an occasional trip to Aspers like, he's publicly held some of his charity events there.

No, no, it's simply not possible that he could have religious and moral objections to encouraging people to take out loans at extortionate rates of interest that could ruin their lives while thinking it does less harm to spend some of his own money in a casino.  I mean, what sense would that make?  it has to be absolutely all or nothing in every situation, that's what the real world's like, innit?  It's like someone saying "Sorry, as a Catholic I don't think I can promote an abortion provider on my shirt"  BULLSHIT, I've seen you eat meat on a Friday!  LIAR!  What's your real reason?!

People pointed out that having a sponsor like Wonga could cause these types of issues.  Cisse's well within his rights to object to promoting them.

He's forcing a move, a think it's clear to see that. He probably didn't even know who/what Wonga were until they sponsered us.

So what?  He knows what they are now.  If he wants to force a move, he can force one without this excuse.  Footballers do it every single day.

He looks like the good guy doing it this way though. It's nothing to do with the Catholic/Christian argument either - he proclaims to be a practicing Muslim when he quite clearly isn't. He is using his religion to force a move elsewhere, I've no doubt about that.

Does he drink booze?  Does he eat pork?  Does he pray to mecca?  Does he believe in an afterlife?  He's clearly religious to some extent, just like anyone else who claims a religion.  You don't go around telling people they aren't Christians because you can flick through a bible and find parts of it they haven't followed to the letter.  You don't then accuse them of being up to no good on a Sunday because they can't really be going to church because they're not a practising Christian as they're wearing clothes made out of more than one fibre.

By the logic Cisse's being subjected to, are there ANY practising Muslim footballers?  Given the weekend games, are there ANY Christian or Jewish players?  Is the premier league entirely secular, from top to bottom?

He's said it's moral and religious objections, his objections could be 95% moral and 5% religious.
