A wuz theyar when Amlaf, Amamalf, Ammmmmafut, that french blerk scowad.

He seems to have just joined us and vanished.  Another facet to our transfer policy a la Gosling maybe, take a punt on them if they're free.  If it doesnt work out, you've lost a little in wages (minus any transfer fee).

edit:  well, that first line wasn't great to begin with but after that previous post got deleted it looks a bit random.  Trust me, there was a reason.

MEHDI Abeid and Romain Amalfitano have both been told to find new clubs as the Newcastle United summer clear-out begins.

Abeid is interesting Championship club Millwall while Amalfitano – who has slipped completely under the radar since moving to Newcastle a year ago – is set for a return to France after being told he was not in the club’s plans.

Nice, who made an approach to sign him last close season, are interested in offering him an escape route from Tyneside.

Alan Pardew was told at the end of the season that in order to bolster his squad he would have to be prepared to let others go, and Abeid and Amalfitano were two of the players who were told to find new clubs.

The idea is that this will clear the way for younger players to have opportunities in the first-team squad next year, while also allowing United some flexibility in the transfer market.

Midfielder Dan Gosling is another who has been made available – although with a year left on his contract it is unlikely that he will find any permanent takers. A loan switch is more likely.

Part of new director of football Joe Kinnear’s job is to take more of a strategic role with the reserves and younger players, which is one area that owner Mike Ashley does not feel has provided enough value for money in recent years. When United were left without specialist centre-back cover in December 2011 – forcing them into playing Danny Simpson there – Ashley is understood to have questioned why there were no defenders of the required standard coming through the Academy who could be used.

Work has been done in the meantime to try and remedy this situation, but Ashley is understood to have expressed his dismay again this season that the squad does not have enough players on the fringes who are ready to make an impact.

Kinnear hinted last Sunday that his remit included assessing fringe players like Abeid and Amalfitano, who did not feature in the Premier League last season, to make a judgement on whether they were good enough. Both will be told to find new clubs.

It remains to be seen what kind of shape the squad will be in when they jet out to Portugal next month for the club’s training camp near Porto. Details of that – along with other pre-season friendlies – were announced yesterday, with United staying in Continental Europe for two of their tune-ups for the second year running.

United will travel to Northern Portugal to play Rio Ave on July 20 before taking on Pacos de Ferreira, who qualified for the Champions League last season, on July 23.

The games will be an opportunity for Pardew to re-integrate his internationals into the squad, with the trip likely to be in their first week back in pre-season. The likes of Papiss Cisse, Cheick Tiote and Yohan Cabaye will be given the first week of pre-season training, which reconvenes in a fortnight’s time, off.

United kick off their pre-season programme at Motherwell on July 16 – and have also pencilled in friendly games at Blackpool (July 28), St Mirren (July 30) and a home game against Braga on August 10, the week before the season kicks off.

Can only assume he's made no impression at all in the reserve set up. Was never a fan of Abeid when he played and didn't see enough of Amalf to judge. Abeid had a good spell on loan in Scotland as well, suppose that doesn't really count for anything as the league is so shit. Unless your Tim Krul and you're stopping 3-0 defeats from being highly embarrassing score lines in which you’ve been very impressive.

well...can´t really be Joe´s decision as he hardly have seen them in action.

Rather we shifted players like jonas, obertan, gosling, ameobi....players that proved they never will be good enough. replaced them with promising players.

really would like to keep mr. allround perch.

No point in keeping him around if he's clearly not fancied by the coaching staff. Which he obviously isn't.

Guessing we must be planning some squad bulking signings or some promotion from below?

I'm guessing Bigi & perch are enough cover centrally after Cabaye, Tiote, sissoko & Anita.

We don't really need to replace any of the 3 mentioned.

There's Vuckic n'all, presuming his latest injury hasn't knackered him completely.

And I'd agree. It's a pity about Abeid, I thought he might develop into a decent player. Amalfitano and Gosling were just pisstakes, especially considering the latter must have played at least a dozen times for us.

Cabaye, Sissoko, Marveaux, Tiote, Anita, Bigirimana, Perch, Jonas, (Vuckic)

Should be fine for depth at CM. Quality...meh.

Good

Decent/have potential

Shit, but happy for them to make up the squad

Vuckic is a :dontknow:

That's how I see it.

One way or the other we are going to have to decide who makes the call on players coming or going. It's a bit pointless bringing in players like Amalfitano because Carr rates them, if Pardew is looking for totally different attributes.
